1. In Bosnia, Maya has almost no kibble left to feed the 68 dogs at her shelter. They will starve if no one steps in!

%%%

“These past weeks, the number of dogs in my care has risen again : mostly puppies, thrown away in neighboring towns with no shelters… I try to welcome every newcomer, but the strain is immediate: more mouths to feed, more fragile stomachs, more special diets I simply can’t provide. This summer has been suffocating, with over 35°C. I set up fans, but even so, the dogs struggle to breathe and desperately need regular, nutritious meals to cope...

Food is my number one worry, every single day. In the past few days, I’ve had to cut back portions just to buy some time. Today, I’m down to only two bags of kibble, barely 10 kg. It’s not enough: I mix it with rice, organ meat, bread, anything I can get. But it still doesn’t cover the needs of the seniors, the recovering dogs, or the fragile puppies…

And that’s what scares me most: the huge gap between what the dogs need and what I can actually put in their bowls! Without regular kibble, recovery slows, immune systems collapse… and I’ll be forced to refuse new dogs. The thought of turning a dog away, or worse, reducing the number already at the shelter; keeps me awake at night. With every meal I try to stretch, I feel the clock ticking.”

2. Sick dogs are regressing, seniors are getting weaker, puppies aren’t developing… If the lack of kibble continues, all of them will see their health collapse.

###

“I fight hard to avoid empty bowls, but rationing has consequences. Senior dogs and those recovering from surgery need proper food to maintain their weight and support treatment. Puppies need quality food to grow. When I can’t give them what they need, progress stops dead… Lately, I’ve seen fragile dogs plateau instead of improving : a worrying sign that their bodies simply aren’t getting enough.

If this goes on, I already know what’s coming: digestive problems, dull coats, weakened immunity, longer recovery times after illness or surgery. Puppies are at the greatest risk: poor nutrition now can handicap them for months! And in this summer heat, underfed dogs dehydrate faster and risk deadly heatstroke.

Emotionally, it’s a crushing burden. I spend my days doing mental math: how to divide portions, which dog needs the special kibble first, who can wait another day… It’s unbearable to look into the eyes of a sick or elderly dog and know that the food I have isn’t enough to help them as they deserve.”

3. Bueno is tormented by constant allergies, his immune system destroyed: without quality kibble, he’s already regressing…

###

“When Bueno first arrived at the shelter, he was just a tiny puppy in a pitiful state. His immune system had completely collapsed, and his body was covered in severe allergic reactions. We still don’t know the exact cause of his problems, but one thing was clear from the very start: without urgent, specialized care, he wouldn’t have stood a chance.

Even today, Bueno remains extremely fragile. His skin problems flare up constantly; he needs ongoing veterinary supervision and tailored nutrition to strengthen his body. He is fighting illness every day. Without quality kibble to support his recovery, his progress will stall, or even reverse. In fact, it’s already happening.

Food is absolutely essential for him: every meal brings him closer to a healthier, pain-free future. After all he’s endured at such a young age, Bueno deserves stability, comfort, and above all, the certainty of finding a full bowl of kibble waiting for him every single day.”

4. Without regular donations and crushed by debt, Maya must choose between treating or feeding her dogs: this campaign is their only chance.

###

“We rely entirely on donations… but they’re never consistent. Prices keep rising while support keeps falling. The lack of donations has a real, immediate impact: we’ve had to postpone some routine vet check-ups. A few dogs who need continuous medication even had their treatments delayed for weeks… It’s a terrible choice to make, but it’s our reality right now: either we treat them, or we feed them!

We owe about €3,500 to the vet : an enormous sum. The pressure never ends: vet bills, kibble, rent, salaries… everything is competing for the same funds. Worst of all, our last kibble campaign failed. Even though a few kind people helped, it was nothing compared to the more than 2 tons we were counting on to feed our dogs… It was a crushing blow.

This time, we truly hope our campaign will succeed… It’s the only way to stabilize the situation at the shelter! Every euro donated to this campaign helps us break the vicious cycle of medical setbacks caused by malnutrition… to feed our dogs regularly, protect the most fragile, and keep our doors open to new arrivals.”

5. Maya isn’t asking for money, only kibble, so her dogs won’t starve.

###

“The reason I do all this is simple: saving a life is my driving force. ‘Their happiness is my happiness.’ This work isn’t just something I do, it’s my passion, my calling. Even though the price is heavy, physically and emotionally. The stress, the endless emergencies, I feel them in my body. But the dogs depend entirely on me… and in many ways, I depend on them too. That bond gives me the strength to keep fighting every single day.

Here, dogs are abandoned with no alternatives: no shelters in nearby towns, no safety net. So we step in, because there’s no one else. No breaks, no days off, and often no guarantee we’ll have enough food for tomorrow. And when food is lacking, everything becomes harder: cleaning, treating, comforting frightened dogs, and answering the next call for help…

Community support is the difference between survival and hope. Every gesture matters: every bag of kibble becomes full bowls, stronger bodies, calmer minds. It frees us to focus on what truly matters: healing, socializing, finding families. Without food, nothing else makes sense! Your help means full bowls today, and the promise of a better tomorrow for these dogs.”
