1. In Bosnia, Samira is almost out of kibble for the 77 dogs in her shelter: they will starve if no one helps her!
"I take care of 77 dogs at the shelter, and the past few weeks have been really tough. Winter is coming, the rain has turned the whole place into mud, and the cold makes absolutely everything harder. But the worst part right now is the food: we’re running out of kibble, and fast.
I’ve been forced to cut their portions for weeks just to make what we have last a little longer. The stock is almost gone, and I have no reserves anywhere. Every mealtime breaks my heart: they finish their tiny portions in seconds and look at me, still hungry... It’s very hard to watch. And I know that without help soon, things will only get worse.
Winter always brings its share of problems, but what scares me most is hunger. I don’t know how to keep my dogs safe if their bowls stay empty…"
2. The dogs are exhausted: hunger is pushing them to fight, their health is collapsing... Without kibble, they won’t last.
"The lack of kibble is already showing. The dogs are more nervous, more irritable. Fights can break out in seconds at feeding time. The weaker ones step back, too scared to get close when the others push forward… Watching the tension rise like this every day is heartbreaking.
Their health is suffering too. The fragile dogs are losing weight fast, getting weaker, getting sick more easily. Some are already struggling to keep warm or recover from small issues… Without enough kibble, they simply don’t have the strength.
If this campaign fails, I honestly don’t know what will happen to us. No one can survive without food! I have no solution left, no way to borrow kibble anymore. Just imagining my dogs starving… it’s unbearable. I’d feel like I had completely abandoned them…"
3. Old, fragile and fading away, Zuja is getting weaker every day: without kibble, she won’t make it.
"Zuja is 9 years old now, and she’s very fragile. Her immune system is weak, she’s losing a lot of weight and huge amounts of fur. The vet gave her a treatment, but without enough food, her body can’t react or regain any strength. She’s already thin and tired, and each cold day drains her even more.
She’s such a gentle, quiet dog. She avoids conflict, backs away as soon as others get tense: and with hunger making everyone more on edge, she’s even more vulnerable now.
Without this kibble, her condition will get worse very fast. She has no reserves left to cope with hunger, especially now that winter is coming…"
4. Vet debts, low donations, no local support: without this campaign, Samira won’t be able to feed her dogs.
"Financially, things are really bad. Every day I call for help, I reach out to people, but I get very few answers. Here in Bosnia, everyone has their own problems: prices keep rising, life is getting more expensive. And with the holidays coming, many already have too many expenses, and I understand that. But the dogs don’t get a break: their bowls need to be filled every single day.
I have vet debts from emergency treatments, and there are still dogs who need medication. Right now, I don’t have the means to buy what they need. I’ve tried absolutely everything to raise funds: new groups, new appeals, asking everywhere… but in the end, I’m alone. We don’t have any partner organization, no one to help us relay the situation. Some people would love to help, but most can only send a few euros, sometimes nothing.
That’s why this campaign matters so much. If we can secure kibble, the little money I manage to collect can finally go to treatments, emergencies, repairs… instead of disappearing immediately into food. You are our only light in this darkness. That’s the hard truth."
5. Samira isn’t asking for money, just kibble to keep her dogs from starving.
"These dogs are my greatest strength. Their love is what gets me through each day. Even though I struggle to walk since I hurt my leg, the pain disappears the moment I step into their space to feed them or clean. Being around them gives me an energy I can’t explain.
Caring for animals in Bosnia is incredibly difficult. Many people don’t understand why I do it; some even think I’m wasting my time. But I saved these dogs from the streets, from dangerous places, from situations where no one else would have protected them. They trust me, and I can’t break that trust.
I truly encourage everyone to help, even a little. Even one bag of kibble makes a huge difference for them. I can’t fight this battle alone anymore: there are too many dogs for just me and my husband. The community’s support is essential if we want to continue. Please, help us keep them alive.
