Athos is a four-month-old kitten, found on the streets suffering from a severe case of cat flu. The disease had affected his eye, which was badly damaged and protruding from its socket!
Sadly, it was necessary to remove and enucleate his eye. We've since managed to treat the virus with a course of medication, but Athos will be partially sighted for life…
A diet of kitten-appropriate food would allow Athos to effectively build up his essential vitamin, protein and mineral intake. Such canned food, while strengthening his weakened body, would also help to keep him hydrated. Consequently, he can continue to grow in a more settled manner than his hard beginnings have so far allowed.
We have had to take in a great many new cases recently, notching up the number of our charges to about forty.
The local council grants us only 500 euros subsidy annually, which is nowhere near enough to cover all the costs. Unfortunately, donations aren’t making up the shortfall and haven’t increased.
