1. In Serbia, Gorica has no kibble left to feed the 205 dogs in her shelter: they’re going to starve!
“These last few weeks have been an absolute nightmare. I’ve never had so many dogs at once: 205 now depend entirely on my shelter. People keep dropping dogs off in front of my gate, others are left on the street right next to it. And now that winter has set in, everything is even harder… and worst of all, I don’t have a single bit of kibble left! For the past six weeks, I’ve only been able to feed my dogs chicken bones and scraps… tiny amounts every day.
In the middle of winter, it’s disastrous. They actually need more food to cope with the cold, and I have nothing to give them. Not a few bags, not even a small stash: nothing at all!
I feel completely defeated. The last small donations we received lasted only two or three days. There are no reserves, no local support, no alternative solution. Without a successful kibble campaign, my dogs will grow dangerously weak. I know some won’t make it…”
2. The dogs are losing weight, growing exhausted, and fighting… Without kibble, disaster is looming!
“The lack of kibble is already taking a huge toll on them. They’re more nervous, they fight more often, they react to the slightest thing. Hunger completely changes their behavior. Many can’t even defend their food bowls anymore. Some are getting thinner, others are showing signs of exhaustion: bones and scraps simply cannot meet their needs, especially in winter!
If this goes on, I know the consequences will be terrible. Their immune systems will collapse, disease will spread, and the most fragile dogs won’t survive. In winter, even a slight drop in strength can quickly turn into a catastrophe…
I can see them declining before my eyes, and I have no way to stop this spiral. Not without this kibble campaign.”
3. Deki still has lasting effects from parvo and was just attacked again: without kibble, he’ll remain an easy target…
“Out of all my dogs, Deki is one of the ones I worry about the most. I found him in 2019, abandoned right in front of my gate with three other dogs, all of them suffering from parvovirus. They were in terrible shape… I didn’t even know if they would survive. But Deki fought. He somehow found enough strength to pull through, even though the disease left permanent marks on his body and his immune system.
Even now, despite his progress, he still suffers from the after-effects of parvo. And recently, he was injured again: another fight broke out, and he ended up with a deep wound. For now, I’ve taken him inside my house to keep him safe while he heals. But I know this is only temporary. It’s just a band-aid on a broken leg, as we say. The attacks won’t stop as long as the food situation stays the same…
Because the real problem is the lack of kibble. The dogs fight because they’re hungry, because there’s nothing, because scraps aren’t enough. And it’s because of this hunger that dogs like Deki become targets: weaker, slower, unable to defend their share. Without kibble, we can’t restore calm, and we can’t protect Deki…”
4. Too ill to run the shelter and overwhelmed by debt, Gorica cannot feed her dogs without this kibble campaign.
“Our financial situation is worse than ever. Donations have almost completely stopped: I’ve only received two small gifts recently, 250 kg in total, gone in just a few days. I’m deeply in debt: water, vet bills, electricity…
Feeding 205 dogs requires a massive amount of kibble… far more than I can afford! I keep posting calls for help, I try, but no one answers. And sadly, I am too ill to look for other solutions: I am weak and bedridden, and have been for weeks… I live with drains and tubes.
Right now, two employees are running the shelter for me. Their salaries are covered by an American organization, and I am endlessly grateful for that… but nothing is guaranteed, neither in the long term nor even the short term. If that organization stops its support, I won’t be able to keep them. I won’t be able to manage anything anymore.
I no longer have the physical strength to go on alone. I admit it with great sadness: without outside help, I can’t save my dogs anymore. They rely on me, but now I must rely on you. Every bag of kibble gives them not just food, but a little peace, safety, and dignity.”
5. Gorica isn’t asking for money, only kibble to prevent her dogs from starving.
“These dogs are my whole life. For years, I’ve taken in those nobody wanted, cared for the injured, carried the abandoned, protected the most vulnerable. In a country where animal suffering is everywhere, I gave everything to give them a chance at a decent life. They became my mission, my family, my reason to keep going.
But today, I am very weak. I’m over 80 years old, I have cancer, and I’ve been bedridden for weeks. I no longer have the strength to get up, no way to go to them like I used to. It breaks my heart to hear them and to know they need me, while my body just won’t respond.
On my own, in this state, it’s impossible to continue without help. I need you. Every donation of kibble helps them survive… and helps me continue this fight that I have never abandoned. I don’t want to let them down; I beg you, please help me protect them.”
