“We are right on the brink of collapse. There is almost no kibble left. I have been cutting rations for weeks and making questionable mixes a bit of kibble, stale bread, old pastries. I know perfectly well this is not proper food, but I have no other option.
My dogs are hungry, and while I am fighting to feed them, more keep arriving. Puppies left in cardboard boxes, old dogs, sick dogs, disabled dogs, thrown away like old socks. I cannot look away, but every dog that arrives is one more mouth to feed. And that is exactly where everything breaks down.
Winter only makes things worse. They need more energy when it is cold, and I am forced to give them less! Every single day, I ask myself what I will put in their bowls the next morning.”

“Since we started running out of kibble, everything at the shelter is more tense, and you feel it every minute. The dogs are on edge. They pace, they watch, they wait. When it is time for bowls, it becomes a real breaking point. Growling starts, tension rises, and sometimes it explodes.
Over the past few days, I have had to break up several fights. It happens very fast, it is violent, and it is not just noise. A bowl goes down, one dog squeezes in, another snaps, and I have to jump in. I run, I shout, I put myself in between. But with 250 dogs, I cannot be everywhere at once. That is the reality.
The ones who pay the price are always the same. The old ones, the sick ones, the disabled ones, those who cannot defend themselves. They get pushed aside, they stop daring to come closer, they lose their share. I see some of them staying away, as if they already know they have no chance. I do everything I can to prevent the worst, but I am afraid that one day, I will not get there fast enough.”

“Stara is one of the most vulnerable dogs in the shelter. She is 15 years old, and at her age, every meal matters. She still carries the marks of a terrible life. Stara lived through real hell, dozens of abuses, and her health has never recovered. When kibble runs out, it is always the oldest and weakest who fade first, and Stara is exactly in that situation.
She has been on the adoption waiting list for ten years without anyone ever choosing her. Ten years of waiting while time passes, while her body wears down, while the shelter remains her only home. You can see it. She no longer has the energy of a young dog, and she needs regular food just to keep going, to hold on to a bit of strength, to avoid slipping further.
Stara is also shy and reserved with the other dogs. She does not fight for her share, she does not push, she does not demand. She stays on the sidelines. So when I have to ration food, when the bowls are not full enough, Stara is one of those who eats the least. Without enough kibble, she could lose weight very quickly, grow even weaker, and after everything she has already endured, the idea of her ending her life in hunger is simply unbearable.”

“Financially, the situation is catastrophic. I have almost no donations, and I cannot even cover the minimum anymore. Food and veterinary care are the biggest expenses, and yet they are absolutely essential. I can wash the dogs myself, clean, groom them, but I cannot make food or medicine appear out of nothing.
I have tried everything to get help. I have gone to fairs hoping for donations. Sometimes people bring a bit of food, but never enough. Vet debts keep piling up. Everything is at a standstill, while the needs keep growing.
This kibble campaign is absolutely vital. Without it, the dogs simply will not survive the winter. This is not about comfort. It is about survival, about life or death. Food is the foundation of everything. Health, calm, the ability to keep going. Without kibble, my dogs cannot hold on.”

“I created this shelter out of love. I love animals deeply. But here in Serbia, what I mostly see is abandonment, again and again. Dogs thrown out as if it were normal. And every day, I am left with the same question. How am I supposed to do this? How can I save as many as possible when they keep bringing me more, when dogs are abandoned everywhere, when no one thinks about the consequences?
This work exhausts me. I live in constant stress, fear, and sadness. I cannot eat if they do not eat. Their suffering is my suffering. If people thought about it even a little, maybe they would not throw their dogs into the street... If everyone sterilized the animals they have, none of this would be happening.
Today, I am here, in the middle of this reality, with hungry dogs and no kibble left. I am not asking for comfort. I am just asking for enough to feed them, enough to keep them alive. One donation means life. Their life."
