Animal Webaction visited the site 18 January 2026 and confirms the situation described below.

“The situation on the streets is extremely fragile. Dogs are abandoned all the time… And what makes it even harder is that many of them weren’t ‘born on the streets’ at all. They used to be family pets. We find puppies, very young, left completely on their own without their mother, with no protection at all.
The problem is that I’m now seriously running low on kibble. So I’ve had to cut back on my feeding rounds, and I can’t go and feed them as often as I used to. I do everything I can, sometimes I manage to collect leftovers… but it’s not enough. And in winter, it’s even harder, because they need to eat more to cope with the cold.
If I don’t find kibble very quickly, it will create tensions. The stray dogs will start roaming the city looking for food. And then they’re exposed to everything: violence, poisoning, the pound. These dogs aren’t aggressive or dangerous. But when you’re hungry, stressed, exhausted, you end up approaching people and shops because you have no other choice. And in those moments, they’re quickly seen as a nuisance, as a problem, when in reality they’re just trying to survive… And that’s how everything can spiral out of control very fast.”

“At the shelter, the situation is just as tense. I’m currently taking care of around 50 dogs. There have been a few adoptions recently, which is a relief… but in reality, the number never really goes down, because new dogs keep arriving nonstop. So the workload stays overwhelming every single day.
And here too, I’m at the very end of my supply. For more than ten days, I’ve been rationing meals because I barely have any kibble left. Right now, none of the dogs are truly getting enough to eat… and in winter, that’s incredibly dangerous. They need strength to hold on, to keep their immune systems up, to avoid getting sick.
If I can’t find kibble very soon, the consequences will be serious. They’ll grow weaker, much more vulnerable… and for dogs who are already sick, recovering will be even harder. I know it: without this campaign, I won’t be able to meet their most basic need… and that terrifies me.”

“Pandica is a young female dog, about one year old. I found her on the street a month and a half ago, in an extremely worrying condition. She had been bitten by other dogs, especially on her legs. One of her front legs was so swollen she could barely use it.
I took her in and treated her at the shelter. She’s doing better, but she’s still very vulnerable. She’s already experienced the violence of the streets, and her body has been through so much. For her, proper nutrition is essential so she doesn’t relapse.
If I can’t find kibble, I may no longer be able to keep her at the shelter. And sending her back to the streets would be incredibly dangerous. She could once again be exposed to attacks, injuries, and constant survival mode. It’s a thought that fills me with anxiety.”

"Financially, the situation is truly disastrous. I’m in debt both to pet stores and to vets. I owe over €1,000 just for kibble, and even more for veterinary care. Every emergency pushes me deeper.
I’ve already had to stop antiparasitic treatments, which puts all the dogs at risk. And recently, two more emergencies made things even worse: one dog was violently attacked and bitten all over its body, and another was hit so badly that it lost both of its eyes. I took them to the vet immediately, even though it meant going into even more debt. I had no choice.
Donations have completely stopped. Serbia is going through a very severe financial crisis, and people simply can’t afford to help anymore. I tried organizing online fundraisers, but nothing works now. I’ll be completely honest: today, Animal Webaction is truly my only hope of getting kibble.”

“In Serbia, life is extremely hard for animals. Abandonments never stop, help is scarce, and when you commit yourself, you quickly find yourself alone facing impossible situations. The days are long, physically draining, mentally exhausting. At night, I never fall asleep peacefully. I’m always wondering if I’ll have enough food, enough strength, enough solutions for tomorrow.
What I do takes everything from me. It costs me financially, emotionally, mentally. There are moments when I’m exhausted, when I doubt myself, when I feel overwhelmed. But I keep going, because I see these dogs, because I know what they’ve been through, and because without help, they have no chance.
But today, I can’t do it alone anymore. Without support, I won’t be able to keep feeding them or protecting them. A donation of kibble isn’t an abstract gesture: it’s a meal, warmth, a little relief, a chance to hold on a bit longer. For them, and for me.”
