Poor Ruben has become epileptic due to abuse!

1. He has been abused!

Ruben is a 10-year-old cat who has suffered abuse. The poor animal has been shot at! Peppered with pellets to the body and head, he began to have post-traumatic epileptic seizures.

The sound of thunderstorms and the distant shots of hunters cause him to lose consciousness and convulse... This is why we have placed him with a foster family, where he can be safe.

2. He can no longer chew...

Unfortunately, Ruben is a carrier of FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Syndrome). Being vulnerable immunologically, he has contracted a calicivirus. He can't eat dry food at all anymore, as he doesn't have enough teeth left!

3. His kidneys are no longer functioning properly...

As he's aged, Ruben has also developed kidney problems: his kidneys no longer properly remove toxins from his body. He therefore needs a special diet, which we can't afford to buy.

4. To recover healthily, he will need suitable canned food

A balanced diet specifically designed to be gentle on the kidneys would suit Ruben best. Rich in good nutrients and easy to swallow, such food would allow him to regain his strength easily and safely.

5. The difficult cases are mounting up...

Things are quite desperate at the moment: we have a lot of hard-to-care-for moggies that nobody wants to adopt. Our food stocks are totally gone, making our job much harder.

We've made an emergency appeal, but people's resources are too limited for the assistance to be substantial...
