Animal Webaction visited the site 28 September 2026 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Nassima and Rachid have been rationing the 76 dogs at their shelter for two weeks: their stock is running low and their supplier won’t sell them anything anymore.

%%%

“Today, we have 76 dogs at the shelter. A few years ago, there were fewer than twenty. Since then, they’ve never stopped coming, and over the past few months, far more have arrived than we’ve been able to get adopted.

For two weeks now, we’ve been rationing: the dogs get nothing but kibble, in smaller amounts, to make the stock last. We still have a little left, but it’s going down fast, and we can’t restock: our supplier won’t sell us anything anymore.

Every day, we open the bags and count how many are left. What we need now is a new supply, so that all 76 bowls are full every day.”

2. At the shelter, reduced rations are causing fights at mealtimes: full bowls would mean everyone gets their share.

###

“When there isn’t enough in the bowls, you feel it straight away. With rations this tight, tension builds, and fights break out at mealtimes.

In a pack of 76 dogs, there are always some that are stronger than the others. They’re the ones who take over at the bowls. The others wait their turn, or eat less than they need.

We keep an eye on every meal, but with so little to share, we can’t prevent everything, and nine of our dogs are already receiving treatment. With full rations, everyone would get their share, and mealtimes would be calm again.”

3. Naya, six months old, survived an attack that left her paralysed: she needs to eat well to grow and build her strength.

###

“Naya is six months old. Four months ago, people from the village where our shelter is located told us about a little dog at the end of the road. Some teenagers had attacked her with stones. When we found her, she was in a very bad way.

She survived. But her hindquarters are paralysed and she won’t be able to walk: she’ll need a wheelchair to get around. We hold on to the hope that one day, someone will want to adopt her. In the meantime, this is where she’s growing up, and she needs to eat properly to build her strength.

With the reduced rations and the fights around the bowls, it's really hard for her. What she needs is enough kibble to get her share at every meal and grow up properly.”

4. On the streets of Essaouira, 40 to 50 dogs wait for each of Nassima rounds: there needs to be enough kibble to feed them all.

%%%

“On the streets, we’re looking after between 40 and 50 dogs at the moment. When we arrive, they welcome us with joy: it’s a real celebration, simple as that.

But what we bring them isn’t enough anymore. We’ve had to go back to makeshift meals: we mix the kibble with rice and carcasses. On top of that, with the new Law No. 19.25, which regulates and penalises the feeding of stray animals, our rounds have become very complicated... But we keep going: because we’re all these dogs have.

Over the past few months, during two big festivals in town, the pound rounded up dogs, and some of the ones we fed were taken away... The ones left live outside, with no shelter, and new litters have been born among them: to get through the winter, puppies and adults alike need full rations.”

5. Nassima and Rachid owe €240 to their supplier and around €700 to the vet: they can no longer buy kibble.

###

“We still owe our supplier €240 for special puppy kibble, and for now, we can’t buy anything more from them. Medical care, meanwhile, goes on: vaccines, dewormers, sterilisations. At the vet’s, the bills have reached around €700.

Some dogs need long-term care. Crevette, eight months old, was found outside the shelter with two other puppies from her litter, all suffering from dermatitis. We’re still treating her regularly, and she hasn’t shaken it off yet.

Donations are down, and every euro that goes to the vet is one euro less for kibble.”

6. Nassima and Rachid aren’t asking for money, only kibble so their dogs can eat their fill.

###

“The hardest decision we’ve had to make lately is to stop taking in new dogs until another one has been adopted. Honestly, it’s really hard to stick to. Sometimes, with Rachid and Murielle, we end up taking one in anyway: there are cases where we just can’t say no.

These dogs, the ones at the shelter and the ones on the streets who make such a fuss of us on every round, they’re the reason we keep going, even when everything gets complicated. We do what we can, with what we have.

In March, thanks to you, 2,900 kg of kibble arrived at the shelter. With this campaign, we’ll be able to fill the bowls again, both at the shelter and on the streets.”

7. By acting now, you can help Rachid and Nassima receive 2900 kilos of kibble.

Animal Webaction has a logistics hub in Morocco, which allows it to step in quickly and deliver kibble.

8. Kibble is only delivered if the campaign reaches its goal.

If the goal isn’t reached, the campaign is cancelled: Nassima and Rachid receive nothing and every participant is refunded. That’s why every share counts.

Since 2019, 18 campaigns have delivered nearly 38 tonnes of kibble to Nassima and Rachid’s dogs. The last six:

  • 16 March 2026: 2,900 kg of kibble delivered
  • 28 October 2025: 3,000 kg of kibble delivered
  • 28 May 2025: 3,000 kg of kibble delivered
  • 3 February 2025: 1,500 kg of kibble delivered
  • 26 November 2024: 1,500 kg of kibble delivered
  • 25 September 2024: 1,700 kg of kibble delivered

“The dogs are really happy, and so are we, to be able to provide for them.” Rachid, November 2024

9. In Morocco, donors are few and far between, and there are no foundations or grants to pay for kibble: street dogs can only count on organisations like Nassima and Rachid’s to get fed.
