Animal Webaction visited the site 26 April 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In Romania, 38 dogs placed in boarding will have to go back to the streets because of a lack of food!

Following Aurelia's association SOS, we went to see her at the shelter on April 26th.

On the spot, we met 150 dogs: wounded, sick and/or disabled, they are too fragile to survive the lack of kibble. The dry food stock will be exhausted on May 4th.

Worse still, 38 other dogs are placed in boarding: if Aurelia can no longer provide their food, they will be put back on the street

Already in debt, and seeing her calls for help fail, Aurelia doesn't know how to get out of it anymore.

The British association that supports her shelter also begs us to help out.

We would like to send 3600 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed

1. The association can no longer pay for the food of the dogs placed in boarding, they will be put back on the street!

Threatened with euthanasia at the municipal pound, Doroty was taken out by Aurelia, but unfortunately has to be accommodated in  boarding

Injured and on the street when she found him, Ash was in danger and could not have survived alone. Aurelia took care of him, but she has no place to put him in the shelter

Skipp (left) wandered wounded in the streets before Aurelia's intervention. He is now in boarding with Odina (right), whom Aurelia saved from impoundment euthanasia

Jess was just a puppy when Aurelia took her in, along with her 4 brothers and sisters. 3 males have been adopted, but Jess and her sister Leila are still waiting... Aurelia had no choice but to place them in boarding

Tobia (left) was taken out of the public shelter, where his euthanasia was scheduled. He now shares Blacky's enclosure, rescued from the street by Aurelia when he was wounded

Like many others, Marcus was taken out of the municipal pound by Aurelia. The pension is his only option until he is adopted

Overcrowded, Aurelia's shelter cannot accommodate as many dogs as she would like, and requires her to reason with each rescue made. Because she cannot turn a blind eye to the animal suffering she is confronted with, Aurelia has decided to place several dogs in boarding, pending their adoption.

But the pensions require a monthly rent, and above all, that food be provided for each housed dog, on top of the rent.

If Aurelia doesn't managed to find kibble quickly, the dogs may be put back on the street!

2. At the shelter, the situation isn't better, dogs will be out of kibble on May 4th : sick, injured and weakened, they will not survive it!

Aurelia suffered from a major tumor on her neck, was homeless and skeletal when she was rescued. She had surgery less than a month ago and still needs time to recover.

Spotted on the edge of the forest, Carina had a very severe prolapse, which caused her a lot of pain. She was operated on only at the end of March, and sheltered at the Aurelia's

Left on the lower side after being hit by a car, Easter was rushed to the vet as soon as Aurelia found her. Suffering from multiple fractures, but also internal injuries, she could not be saved

###
Discovered wandering in the street, Luke has a skin disease whose origin has not yet been discovered: despite various treatments, Aurelia hasn't been abble to cure him yet

###
Rescued from the pound with her  brothers and sisters by Aurelia, Merlin is one of the only ones who has not been adopted. Having contracted Lyme disease from a tick bite, Merlin remains extremely tired and fragile

###
Mirela is totally blind, but also elderly and weakened. Found by Aurelia only a month ago, she remains fragile and diminished for the moment

###
Locked in the municipal pound, Magda was rescued by Aurelia who saw her condition deteriorate: very weak and thin, Magda suffered from hepatitis that was not treated by the pound. She is currently undergoing treatment, but has not yet been cured

###
Lila was suffering from a leg injury and was living on the street when she ran into Aurelia: roted by lack of care, her leg had to be amputated immediately

###
Puke was suffering from untreated hepatitis and severe eye damage before Aurelia treated him. Unfortunately, his eyes had to be removed, but Puke adapted to it.

###
When she was found, Lucia was suffering from an infection in both ears, a skin disease affecting her entire body, and a broken leg, probably as a result of an accident. An amputation and several treatments were necessary to allow her to recover

"On the streets of Romania there are many dogs. For this reason I only save those dogs in difficult situations who really need help. Puppies, sick dogs, injured dogs, old dogs or dogs in areas where they do not have a source of food (dogs abandoned in forests )" Aurelia told us right from the beginning.

As a result, 40% of the dogs housed in the shelter are elderly, most of them are sick and/or disabled. Dirofilariasis, hepatitis, skin diseases and various parasitic diseases are part of everyday life, as are amputations and heavy operations.

Particularly fragile, these dogs will not be able to resist a shortage of food!

3. We went to the shelter on April 26th, the kibble stock was almost exhausted

###
At the time of our visit, less than 500 kg of kibble remained on site, enough to last until May 4th only

Aurelia guided our caseworker Paul through the shelter, and took him to meet the 150 residents who currently live there. Due to lack of space, 38 additional dogs are placed in boarding houses, for which Aurelia must pay each month, and provide food

###

Following Aurelia's calls for help, we went to the shelter on April 26th. On site, we found enough bags of kibble to allow the dogs to be fed until May 4th.

Unfortunately, Aurelia's struggle to find food has already lasted for weeks: the few supports she has have already done their best, she is already heavily in debt, she doesn't know how to continue!

4. In too much debt, Aurelia cannot keep on buying kibble

Due to the state of health of the dogs she rescues, Aurelia is constantly faced with heavy veterinary expenses, which she struggles to cover. To which i added the cost of substantial boarding, for the 38 dogs she cannot accommodate at the shelter, and of course, the cost of food.

To pay for the kibble in recent months, Aurelia had to leave many unpaid invoices, starting with the veterinarian and the pension, with whom she has accumulated more than 1400€ in debts.

It is impossible for her to continue like this without endangering all the dogs who rely on her!

5. Aurelia has made many calls for help, but it doesn't work: she doesn't know what to do anymore!

Overwhelmed by the lack of return to her calls, Aurelia reported her deep tiredness on social networks a few days ago

Since March, Aurelia has been launching SOS to get more support to buy food. In addition to kibble, canned food must also be purchased to feed some dogs, too old or sick to chew the dry one....

But her appeals have only led to a few donations so far, which remain largely insufficient to cover the quantities needed to feed 188 dogs, month after month...

6. The British association that supports her has already done its best, she begs us to help out!

Very involved alongside Aurelia and her shelter, the British association K9-Angels provides her with 400kg of kibble every month. A huge amount to provide for her, which covers barely 15% of the shelter's needs!

When contacted, the president of the association confirmed that it is totally impossible for them to provide more, and that external help is needed:

"Support for Aurelia would be so very welcome, as our funds are limited and we cannot help or guarantee food on a regular basis. We know that food supplies get very low as Aurelia has many dogs to care for, both at the shelter and in foster care, so she really needs this help as a matter of urgency."

7. If we don't reach the objective, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can come into action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before May 6th.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors

8. Neuterings, mobilizations and complaints against municipal pounds: Aurelia's struggle is permanent

One of the last sterilisation campaigns, carried out by Aurelia and financed by Hundepaten e.V. Due to lack of resources, Aurelia can only carry out sterilisation campaigns when an external organisation agrees to finance them

Brave, Aurelia has sued municipalities and private companies involved in the mismanagement of municipal pounds on several occasions. In 2006, she made it possible to put an end to the illegal and violent slaughter of dogs at the Craiova pound, and just won a new battle

Determined, Aurelia is not only fighting for her shelter and the dogs for which she is responsible, but also for improving the overall situation of street dogs in the country.

In particular, she conducts regular neutering campaigns, although she remains dependent on funding obtained or not, as her resources do not allow her to finance them on her own.

She does not hesitate to help other animal advocates, and has already fought several legal battles to change the municipal pound system in Romania, supported by the K-9 Angels association.

9. Determined and combative, Aurelia has spent 20 years fighting for abandonned dogs

###
Aurelia during our visit

Hit by a car, Melvin suffered from rear axle paralysis, and remained untreated for more than a week.... Aurelia rescued him, and allowed his recovery, as well as his adoption in Germany

Thrown into the pound while she was pregnant, Angel had to face the death of her babies, killed by the other dogs in the pen.... While trying to defend them, Angel lost a leg and an eye, and suffered further broken bones. Aurelia arrived too late for the puppies, but fought to save Angel, who has since been adopted in Germany

Totally blind, Future was captured and impounded in a pen with 8 other dogs.... Knowing that he could not survive for long, Aurelia took him into her shelter. Future was adopted in the United Kingdom and died of old age a few months ago in her new family

Involved in animal protection for 20 years, Aurelia created her association 15 years ago, and set up her shelter eight years ago.

All her personal funds were invested in the construction of the shelter, and its maintenance for many years. Today, she is the only one who cares for the dogs in the shelter: she has no employees or regular volunteers and can no longer afford to work.

Because she only rescues dogs in distress, she knows that many will end their lives at the shelter, despite the adoptions she manages to make each month. 40% of the dogs received are elderly, about 30% have behavioural problems related to past traumas, and are therefore difficult to adopt.... That is why Aurelia gives so much importance to the conditions in which dogs are welcomed at the shelter, and cannot bear the thought of no longer being able to feed them.

10. The plight of stray dogs in Romania

11. What will the 3600 kilos collected be used for?

If this collection succeeds, the 3600kg of kibbles collected will be delivered to the Viata Animalelor association, represented by Aurelia. The kibble will be distributed to the 150 dogs hosted at the shelter, as well as to the 38 dogs currently in boarding, relying on the association.
