Animal Webaction visited the site 24 June 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

The food stock is coming to an end, and Monica's health is deteriorating: the 60 dogs at the shelter need help!

In great pain, Monica has to undergo surgery on July 16th, which will leave her disabled for 2 to 3 months.

To get human help at the shelter over this period, she must absolutely guarantee a sufficient amount of dog food, yet the storage is almost empty

Monica cannot afford to buy these kibbles, her few existing supports cannot either.

Following her SOS, we went to the site on June 24th: her concern and the urgency of the situation were obvious.

To ensure that dogs have enough to eat during this difficult time, we want to send 2400 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed

1. The kibble stock will soon be exhausted, yet another problem for Monica, who is facing difficult times

###
During our visit, Mira was suddenly found dead in her pen. Rescued 3 months ago at the shelter, she did not have any obvious health problems... Her loss deeply saddened Monica, already terribly down

###
During our visit on June 24th, there were 300 kg of kibbles left at the shelter: enough to feed the 60 dogs hosted for only a fortnight

###
Every day, Monica prepares a mixture of bread, rice, and kibbles to keep the remaining stock going. An imperfect diet for dogs, and a task that she will no longer be able to perform after the surgery....

On June 28th, Monica sent us these pictures of the remaining bread and rice stock at the shelter, intended to prepare the mixture for the dogs

###
Our agent Ioana (left) spoke at length with Monica (right) during her visit, in order to understand her situation

Made aware of the difficulties encountered by Monica, we went to meet her at the shelter on June 24th. Under a lot of stress, Monica is confronted with a multitude of problems: debts, health issues, and constant worry for the 60 dogs in the shelter overwhelm her.

The stock of kibbles remaining at the shelter is shrinking, Monica mixes it with bread, water and rice because she knows it is impossible for her to renew it....

"The help with the food would mean such a relief for her. She is worried about how to feed the dogs all the time, and especially she thinks of how will she feed them in the future" our agent Ioana told us after her visit.

2. Monica is due for surgery on July 16th, and doesn't know how to refill her kibble stock before her departure

###
"I have to undergo a knee surgery. The pains are huge, and I have to do it. I cannot sleep anymore, I have no peace" says Monica, devastated. For years, Monica has postponed this surgery to avoid leaving her dogs, but she is in agony

With the help of some people who support her, she is arranging her replacement at the shelter during her surgery and her recovery, which will last 2 to 3 months. But having enough food on the spot over that time is a must that needs to be ensured !

###
Today, the shelter houses more than 60 dogs and puppies, whom Monica takes care of alone on a daily basis. A very physical work made almost impossible by the pain. After the surgery, the simple fact of walking will already be a challenge for several weeks

For several years now, Monica has been postponing her knee surgery, in order not to leave the dogs in the shelter. But her health is deteriorating, her suffering is permanent and disabling, it has become impossible for her to continue like this.

"She must have a surgery at her knees and the recovering will take some time. She will need some people to take care of her dogs during this time (and we are working on it - we are looking for volunteers or paid people to help her - but she needs to have enough food for them at her home" explains Carmen, who has been supporting her for a long time.

"Now I need help more than ever [...]  My health is shaky, I have to be admitted to the hospital for surgery. On July 16th, I'll be hospitalized. I'm forced to let animals die here starving or I'll quit surgery. Once again, I call on those who can and want to help me." says Monica.

3.We want to make sure they won't starve during Monica's invalidity period

###
At the shelter for 3 years, Karl was wandering on the road when he was rescued. He remains easily frightened and depends entirely on Monica

###
Abandoned with her litter, Angie was caught and impounded. Knowing that her survival and that of her cubs was threatened, Monica took them all in only three months ago. One of the puppies did not survive and the others were adopted, Angie remains alone at the shelter

###
Abandoned, Gria has only been at the shelter for 4 months. Like her companions, her survival depends entirely on Monica today, and on the food she struggles to make every day

###
At the shelter for three months, Jackie was abandoned overnight

###
Sentenced to be euthanized at the municipal pound, Jony was rescued by Monica 3 months ago. Mira's faithful companion since his arrival, he has been without her since her death

###
Wandering and starving near the shelter, Lupu was taken in 4 months ago. While he has been able to eat so far thanks to Monica's efforts, unfortunately she cannot guarantee that this will be the case in the coming months

###
Taken to the public shelter where she was to be euthanized, Maronica was rescued by Monica 6 months ago. Maronica is only one year old, and has her whole life ahead of her

###
Rescued two days before his euthanasia at the pound, Marty is still traumatized, and has been shaking throughout our visit... Monica's recovery time is going to be difficult for him

###
Patrick has been living at the shelter for 5 months, and narrowly escaped being euthanized in the pound before that

###
Tody is 5 months old, and has been living at the shelter since she was very young. Suffering from scabies, his immune system is affected and his health is precarious....

###
Abandoned at the death of her former owner, Vulpi has been at the shelter for 5 months

4. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before July 3rd.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

5. Monica only receives a small retirement pension, and debts are piling up : she can't buy a stock of kibbles : she can't buy a stock of kibbles !

###
On a daily basis, 25 kg of kibbles are needed to ensure that each of the 60 dogs can eat their fill

Monica lives on a meagre retirement pension, which she has divided as she can between her needs and those of her dogs for nearly 8 years.

This does not allow her to meet the necessary expenses for the shelter on a continuous basis, Monica already has several debts piling up.

To get out of this situation, and ensure that her dogs can eat their fill until she recovers, she would have to pay for more than 2 tons of kibble, which is totally impossible for her!

6. The few supports received from abroad are not enough to fund the kibble stock!

The association Friends For Second Hand Paws has been supporting Monica for several years, but has not been able to help her to buy kibble for several months now: "I try to help Monica as much as I can, because she really needs it, but I have so much "own" dogs in Romania, Brasov and Bucharest" explains Sylvia, its president.

From Holland, Hulp Doet Leven also provides very precious support to Monica: they carry out most adoptions (about thirty over the last 3 months), and send a few bags of kibble each time they come to Romania to pick up some dogs , but they cannot ensure a food stock for nearly 3 months!

7. The shelter is very isolated: local food collections are impossible, and Monica does not receive any help from regular volunteers

###
Monica is most often alone at the shelter, except for the few days a year when her foreign supporters come to visit her

On a daily basis, Monica is alone in her shelter to care for the animals. The only help she receives comes from foreign individuals, who have known her shelter thanks to the social networks. If these visits are precious, they only provide very little relief to Monica: it is only a few days a year...

"Here in this area no one is helping me, I am the only one who helps the tortured, abandomed animals, mistreated by my peers, but now I need help. The only ones who think of me and help as much as I can be friends from abroad. A few. " sayw Monica.

8. For 8 years, Monica has been sacrificing her life and health for Buzau's dogs

###
Despite the difficulties, Monica always puts her dogs first

Monica moved to Siriu in 2011: she shares her land and house with her dogs, day and night.

At 70 years old, Monica takes care of everything at the shelter: she cleans the pens every day, provides treatments and medical care, feeds the animals, rescues them, even sleeps with the most fragile or frightened ones. For them, she never leaves her shelter, not even to visit her children living abroad.

"It's very hard. I have no life, but I can't bear to stand by and do nothing, to ignore them. I only live for my animals. Where I live, people don't like animals: they throw them away like garbage, mutilate them and mistreat them. People say I'm crazy to do what I do, that the situation of street dogs is desperate."

9. The plight of stray dogs in Romania

Monica's shelter is located in Siriu, in the central-eastern part of Romania

10. Thanks to our logistics center in Romania, we can rapidly take action!

If the collection succeeds, the collected food will leave directly from our logistics centre in Romania! We can therefore act very quickly, and help Monica's 60 dogs to get food !

11. What will the 2400 kg collected be used for ?

This collection is organized by the association Friends for Second hand paws, for the benefit of Monica's shelter. The 2400 kilos of kibble collected will be delivered to Monica to feed the 60 dogs welcomed at the shelter
