Animal Webaction visited the site 19 October 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In Romania, this shelter has no more kibbles for its 570 dogs, they will starve to death!

Following Daniela's SOS, we went to the shelter on October 19.

The dogs live on probation, Daniela can no longer afford to buy kibble.

Neighbourhood problems, threats of shutdown etc... she is beset by problems, and her calls for help do not work.

Daniela's shelter is the only one within a 100 km radius, it is the only hope for these abandoned dogs...

We would like to send 3000 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed.

1. Daniela's shelter is the only one within a 100km radius, and no longer has any kibbles, hundreds of dogs will starve

$$$
Daniela tried everything to save this dog, hit by a car and left  in agony in total indifference a few weeks ago. Despite various treatments and one operation, he unfortunately did not survive

For Daniela, reports of dogs in distress are a daily occurrence, she cannot bring herself to ignore them

Often rescued in terrible conditions, dogs require appropriate care and great vigilance

In her shelter, Daniela now hosts 570 dogs. Yet every day she continues to do her utmost to ensure the safety of all the abandonned dogs

Located in the city of Desa, the shelter is very isolated: 22km from the nearest small town... and 100km from the nearest shelter. Yet it is in the countryside that dogs predominate: they have no one except Daniela in these lands...

Located in a rural area in southwestern Romania, Daniela's shelter is very isolated: 22km from the nearest town, and there is no shelter in this area within a 100km radius.

Yet, dogs in need are Daniela's daily lot, who helps dozens of them every month...

At present, the shelter has 570 dogs, it is very difficult for Daniela to continue her rescues, but she is constantly called by the locals when they see a wounded or abandoned dog: "I can't let them die in indifference" she told us. "The situation is as dire as always, the streets, woods etc. are full of abandoned dogs."

2. During our visit on October 19, there was no kibble left at the shelter.... Daniela and her 570 dogs live on probation

During our visit on October 19, we found the storage area completely empty... Since then, Daniela and the dogs have been living from one day to the other, hoping to be able to buy a few more bags the next day

###
"Some days I am forced to wait for money from donations, so I can buy food for the poor dogs" Daniela explained during our visit.

We went to Daniela's shelter on October 19, and were then forced to photograph empty pallets and cardboards, as there was no kibble left. Since then, Daniela has lived from one day to the next.

Physical collections at the exit of a local supermarket, as well as some donations received have allowed her to avoid starvation so far, but the situation is as precarious as possible. "Some days I am forced to wait for money from donations, so I can buy food for the poor dogs. I am struggling to provide for them, because of the lack of funds" Daniela explained.

"My worst fear is to not be able to feed them."

3. To prevent the shelter from being shut down, Daniela must at all costs upgrade it quickly: she must choose between feeding the dogs or having them thrown in the pound!

Placed under threat of having the shelter closed within a few days, Daniela launched a petition to convince the veterinary services to give her time to bring the place up to standard

On 28 October, a press release formalized the decision of the veterinary services to give extra time to carry out the necessary work at the shelter. Daniela has therefore obtained a respite, but must absolutely carry out the work quickly from now on....

Daniela is torn between all her responsibilities: between the 570 dogs to feed and care for at the shelter, the almost daily new rescues, and her obligations to comply with standards, she must lead everything at once....

Shortly after our visit, Daniela's shelter was threatened with closure by the authorities, following various complaints from the neighbourhood, inconvenienced by the presence of dogs....

"We have taken many steps on the road to authorization and we have shown more than kindness and availability in communication. We have spacious and solid pens, the dogs are well cared for, they are microchipped / sterilized / vaccinated [...] We started pouring a cement driveway, but we couldn't finish it, due to lack of funds. At the small donations we receive, we have a choice between feeding the animals and improving the shelter..." she deplores, caught in an inextricable dilemma.

On October 28, the authorities officially announced their intention to give Daniela the opportunity to bring the shelter up to standard, but she now has no choice, and must do so so that the dogs do not end up in the pound....

4. SOS, online collections, physical collections, Daniela is doing a lot of things to find food, but she can't get out of it

Daniela continues to send calls for help, as she has been doing for several weeks...

Caught in a precarious situation for several weeks, Daniela doesn't manage to see the end of it.... Her calls for help do not allow her to replenish the kibble stock, and she now has to face the work of bringing her shelter up to standard...

Supermarket collections and appeals for donations have so far avoided the worst, but this will not last.

5. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive anything

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before November 1st.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

6. At the shelter from 7am to 11pm, every day and on a voluntary basis: Daniela can't work to buy kibble

###
Daniela devotes all her days to caring for the dogs in the shelter, and rescuing the other animals in distress in the area

Since the creation of the association in 2016, Daniela has devoted all her days to the association's dogs. Up at 6am, she takes care of them until 11pm: her only outings are dedicated to visits to the vets and new rescues, it is impossible for her to work!

All her savings having already been used, Daniela can only count on the money sent by her husband (who works in Germany), and the meagre retirement pension received by her mother to support themselves and the 570 dogs....

7. From the United States, the association that supports Daniela's shelter is already doing its best and asks us to intervene

From the United States, Voice for the Needy supports Daniela's shelter as much as it can, but also helps many other shelters. Her resources do not allow her to buy the kibbles necessary to feed 570 dogs, she asks us to help them.

"Daniela, the founder of the association, shows a deep care for each and every dog. She knows the story of each dog in her shelter and loves all of them. She uses her own funds to support the shelter, but it is not enough" she says.

8. We want to save them

###
Elderly, Tanta has been at the shelter for about 1 year. With leg problems, she still can't move normally, and is still under treatment

###
Rescued a few days before our visit, Oana is still on treatment. She and her puppies will need kibble to survive the coming winter

###
Found on the street in mid-October, Sogunel has just joined the shelter...

###
Thrown out on the street, Nero has scars that suggest that he was used for dog fighting. Although his wounds have healed, Nero remains very thin, and has only been at the shelter since September

###
Skeletal and suffering from a skin disease when he was rescued, Eros has been at the shelter for about 1 year

###
Mary was very thin and scared when she was found and taken in at Daniela's shelter. She's been gradually getting back to it for a few months now

9. Daniela is always fighting to protect abandoned animals, but she is exhausted

###
Daniela with Moldita, an impound survivor, who will soon be adopted in Germany

In October, Daniela went on a hunger strike for several days in front of a municipal pound to protest against the euthanasia practiced. "I want to change things here, I try to change things. But no good deed goes unpunished, that's how it works here," she says.

Daniela now lives in her mother's house with her mother, while her husband lives and works in Germany. It is unthinkable for Daniela to join him, because it would be like abandoning animals in their distress in Romania: "Animals represent my whole life. Humans can manage on their own, but these animals need me to survive."

Former cleaning lady, having spent 15 years in Italy with a comfortable lifestyle, she now devotes her days to the shelter, from 7am to 11pm at the very least. She regrets that her involvement implies a certain marginalization on the part of people who do not understand her way of life, including many of her friends.

"All animals deserve the chance to have a better life. I want them to feel loved, and I hope the best for them. I only hope that I get enough funds to be able to continue feeding the animals in need"
