Animal Webaction visited the site 10 November 2019 and confirms the situation described below.
In Romania, Aurelia has no more kibbles to feed the street dogs, the temperature will drop to -10°C!
Aurelia asks us to help her, she will no longer have any kibbles as of November 23rd.
We went on the spot on November 10th.
On the streets, dozens of dogs depend on her for food, they will not survive the winter without kibbles.
Aurelia has been struggling for weeks to avoid the worst, the situation is hanging by a thread.
A sanctuary for dozens of elderly dogs, her shelter will also face a food shortage in only a few days...
We want to help them, by sending 3000 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.
For years, Aurelia has been feeding dozens of stray dogs daily on the way to her shelter, and also travels weekly to other more distant locations to feed others.
"There are so many unfortunately, I have to let them back on the street because I have no enough place in my shelter" she explains. Despite systematic spaying/neutering, new street dogs regularly appear because of unscrupulous owners....
In a few weeks' time, temperatures will drop below 0°C: Aurelia will no longer have any kibbles to distribute to all these street dogs, at the very moment when they need it the most!
To date, 127 dogs are cared for by Aurelia, both in her shelter and on another site rented in addition, because she is sorely lacking space. During our visit on November 10th, we accompanied Aurelia to both places, and met all the dogs.
Many of them are over ten years old, the shelter is for many their only hope... Aurelia has witnessed the death of several of them in recent months, and fears that winter will be fatal to many in the face of a shortage of food!
"I hardly manage to collect the required monthly amount of food for my dogs. For other things needed in the shelter is even harder. I'm asking for your help because winter is coming and the dogs will eat even more so I won’t be able to cover the necessary food."
The few bags of kibble remaining during our visit on November 10th have already been gone for several days. "Yesterday, I was without food. One of my adopter from Germany sent me the Money and i was able to buy 26 bags of food " Aurelia told us recently. A short respite, as these bags will also be used up on November 23rd....
"Everybody asks me to save, help dogs, but there are only a few that make donations. I dedicates all my life to dogs. Real volunteers spend almost all their time with the dogs and don’t have so much time to deal with social media and so on, thus they can have less success with online donations." sums up Aurelia, who is helpless.
We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before November 25.
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
"The vet debt almost never goes away, old debts get paid and new ones appear" explains Aurelia, who owes the veterinarian more than 1500 euros to date.
Aurelia already uses a large part of her own resources to provide for the dogs, and is already in debt. Under these circumstances, it is impossible for her to buy kibble for the winter.
Many of the dogs rescued by Aurelia are survivors of the municipal pound, in which they are subjected to inhuman treatment "Dogs have no medical care and food, this is not normal. I want to change this" explains Aurelia.
In addition to her rescues, Aurelia launched a long battle against the municipality to put an end to current practices and force the mayor to commit to abandoned animals. If the justice system has proven her right, by condemning the municipality to pay money each month to the shelter, the mayor still refuses to pay the slightest penny...
Very involved alongside Aurelia and her shelter, the British association K9-Angels provides her with 400kg of kibble every month, and additional help when possible. A huge amount to provide for the association, which covers only about 25% of the shelter's needs.
"We are sure that Aurelia needs this collection, as we simply do not have the funds available to provide for all the dogs she cares for at Beta's Land and in foster care. We do have a sponsorship scheme available on our website whereby people can 'sponsor food' for an individual dog, this has some take up but more would be good."
Involved in animal protection for 20 years, Aurelia created her association 15 years ago, and set up her shelter eight years ago.
All her personal funds were invested in the construction of the shelter, and its maintenance for many years. Today, she is the only one who cares for the dogs in the shelter: she has no employees or regular volunteers and can no longer afford to work.
Because she only rescues dogs in distress, she knows that many will end their lives at the shelter, despite the adoptions she manages to make each month. 40% of the dogs received are elderly, about 30% have behavioural problems related to past traumas, and are therefore difficult to adopt.... That is why Aurelia gives so much importance to the conditions in which dogs are welcomed at the shelter, and cannot bear the thought of no longer being able to feed them.
This collection is organized by the Viata Animalelor association. The 3000 kg collected will be delivered to Aurelia to feed the 127 dogs she cares for, as well as the stray dogs.
- Animal Webaction has been helping more than 833 animal welfare associations over the past 5 years, with more than 1,967 deliveries in 8 countries (see photos).
- We make sure to contact each partner association, inquire to ensure its reliability and always ask for supporting documents.
- Our partner associations only receive physical products, which means we never send money. When you offer 10kg of food, we deliver 10kg of food to the association.
- We also deal with transportation ourselves, and make sure all the products collected are properly brought where the association needs them to be, so a quick delivery is guaranteed.
- We will notify you by email as soon as the product bought thanks to your donation has been delivered.
- We will ask the association to take pictures of the food received, and will send you these pictures.
- The payment of donations is 100% secured by Paypal (no obligation to have a Paypal account), and by credit card.
- If you change your mind, we will refund your donation upon request, without charge or proof of any kind.
- If unfortunately the collection fails, we will not deliver anything, we will refund you the full amount of your donation.
