Animal Webaction visited the site 30 November 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In France, this small shelter has almost no kibbles left for its 51 dogs!

Following Florence's call for help, we went to meet her on November 30.

She explained that due to the recent heavy rains, the shelter has lost its last bags of kibble.

Helped out urgently by another shelter, Florence managed to avoid the worst, but the situation is disastrous, there will be no more kibble again in a few days....

The cold has set in, and the rain will start again soon, the conditions are difficult for the dogs of the shelter.

Sick, elderly, and having suffered severe abuse, they need our support.

We want to help them, by sending 2160 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed.

1. As the rain continues to fall and the cold sets in, the 51 dogs in the shelter will soon run out of kibble

###
Nina was rescued from the pound very recently with her sister Nini, both are still very thin, but we don't know what they went through

###
Yuna arrived at the shelter at the age of 2 months, as she had been put on sale on an ad site for next to nothing...

###
Torque was urgently brought back from Romania, where he had been the victim of a serious road accident, and had to undergo several operations to recover. He is still suffering from the sequelae of the accident

###
Brisca was found wandering in a terrible state of health, and required extensive care. She is now old, and particularly fragile

###
Recently rescued from the pound, Bela is not only tall but also emaciated, she needs to eat her fill

###
Prisca is only 8 months old, and is currently very thin, she absolutely needs kibble

The climate in November was very difficult at the shelter, which was hit by heavy rains and a cold snap, still going on as we write these lines. And no respite seems to be expected in the coming weeks....

Florence's shelter is home to many elderly dogs, often sick, and/or abused: only the most vulnerable ones can be kept in a heated room, the largest number remains exposed to cold and humidity, which requires them to eat more to be able to resist.

But Florence is also facing a food shortage, and will soon no longer be able to give them any kibbles !

2. A recent flood washed away the remaining kibble stock at the shelter, Florence is devastated

###
While the kibble stock was already decreasing sharply, the heavy rains that fell on the shelter during the week of our visit destroyed the remaining bags. "We are flooded, we have lost what little kibble we had left. I didn't announce it, I'm tired" Florence told us the day before we came

###
During our visit, the traces of the flood were still very present: electrical failure, land made craggy by water....

###
Although she is saddened by the situation, Florence is doing her very best to keep her protégés warm, and to restore the ground as soon as possible. She has also set up a new food storage area in the event of another flood, but is unable to replenish the kibble stock!

3. Helped out urgently by another shelter, Florence barely had 100kg of kibble left when we came by, which is enough for a few days at most

###
Two independent shelters mobilized in November to support Hathi, sending a few bags of kibble as an emergency. But their help will only last for a few days, there were only 100 kg left when we came on November 30th....

###
Florence's shelter now has 51 dogs, all of them in freedom. The lack of kibbles would very quickly have terrible consequences, both on the health of the dogs and on the balance of the pack!

On November 30, we went to the shelter, following Florence's calls for help. With urgent assistance from two independent shelters in the region, she has so far managed to avoid the worst, but the situation is far from being solved.

In just a few days, the shelter will run out of food again!

4. Hathi's shelter is the only one that gives a chance to dogs for whom no one fights, but it is sorely lacking support

###
Totally blind, Toto had to have both his eyes removed because he suffered from glaucoma which was very painful to bear

###
Droopy, who suffered a stroke, is one of the dogs placed in the infirmary, who receive specific care and attention

###
Coming from Serbia, Benji is a very fearful dog that Florence agreed to take in at the shelter, as he simply had nowhere else to go

###
Victim of severe abuse, Kani was rescued with 15 other dogs, but only 6 of them survived. She has severe neurological sequelae from the abuse she suffered

###
Rocky is a 15-year-old dog who arrived at the shelter only a few months ago and also needs special attention

###
Foltos and her daughter Fanny had a very difficult life on the streets of Hungary, and are still quite wild. Taken into the shelter several months ago, they prefer to take shelter under the camper, away from the others

###
14-year-old Flambeau was taken in at the shelter, which gave him a second chance and allowed him to socialize

###
Deaf from birth, Tibo is only two months old, and needs vigilance and a tailor-made education to be able to live with his deafness

The shelter is especially dedicated to abandoned dogs, whom no one wants because they are sick, elderly or have suffered too much abuse. A burden often considered too heavy to bear for traditional shelters and associations, because they are unlikely to be adopted and because their care is expensive...

Florence dedicates her actions to them, to allow them to have a second chance with a new family, or to experience the best possible end of life in the shelter.

"I rescue these invisible souls all year long in states of health that go beyond fiction, we are drowning under veterinary bills to spay, neuter and treat each one of them, and we mourn those who do not survive. It is a hard and cruel fight... I need help for their daily lives, to feed them, to treat them, because yes, I love them and can't bring myself to give up."

5. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive anything

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before December 8th.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

6. Calls for donations, begs to local shops, personal financing: Florence has already tried everything, she doesn't know how to find kibble anymore

Florence is constantly seeking new ways to offer items in the effigy of the association, and thus collect some additional resources to keep the shelter alive

LégendeCalendars, drawings or mugs are initiatives launched to maintain the association's community, but which do not bring in sufficient resources to cover the needs

Also present on teaming, the association regularly invites new members, in order to obtain a more consequent help, but only counts 83 teamers for the moment

To get by, Florence struggles to expand the sources of donations, whether in kind or in money. Teaming, sale of products in the name of Hathi, donation boxes, support from other local shelters, etc... are a very precious help to keep her head above water.

But this is far from allowing her to face all the expenses of the shelter, Florence must inexorably use her retirement pension to pay bills, and has done so since the beginning. With veterinary expenses that can very quickly reach thousands of euros, these solutions are too minimal and random to allow her to get by.

7. The shelter does not receive any subsidies, and no association provides ongoing assistance

###
The shelter's existence now lies entirely on Florence's shoulders, both in the day-to-day management of the dogs and in financial management

The shelter does not receive any public subsidies for its actions, nor any ongoing assistance from other foundations or associations.

While her requests for files have made it possible for her to obtain help from some, such as the Brigitte Bardot Foundation or 30 Million Friends, it remains punctual and small in scale compared to the daily expenses.

Everything therefore lies on Florence's shoulders, who begs us to support her.

8. Florence dedicates herself body and soul to the shelter, but the rhythm is hectic

###
Florence has a special relationship with each dog in the pack, and gives her best for each of them

For them, Florence only sleeps a few hours a night. Living on the shelter's land, she remains on the lookout at all times, including at night when she is alerted in case of unrest

Florence founded her association in 2014, but has been invested in animal protection for decades. Her shelter was only formalized in 2015, with 2 fundamental principles: to give a chance to animals that wouldn't have any elsewhere, and to allow them to enjoy a life outside of a pen.

Thus, the Hathi shelter hosts 50 free dogs: all live together, in packs, which requires a permanent presence and and increased workload.

"Our dogs live in freedom together and with humans on a daily basis to recover from their unfortunate past between abuse, abandonment and programmed euthanasia."

9. What will the 2160 kilos of kibble collected be used for?

This collection is organized by the HATHI association. The 2160 kg of kibbles collected will be delivered to Florence to feed the 51 dogs hosted at the shelter.
