1. In Serbia, Ivana's shelter is overcrowded, but she has no more kibble for her 42 dogs. Unless someone helps, they'll starve to death!
"The situation in Serbia is very difficult, the curfew is awful. For a long time, I have a hard time providing food for dogs, there are more and more of them who need help. We never leave puppies on the streets, but at the moment we are forced to leave two puppies on the street because we absolutely have nowhere to place them.
We’ve admitted these dogs to our shelter to take care of them and now we’re not able to feed them with quality food. We manage our food day after day. We have no supplies. We're trying to feed them with a mixture made from store-bought leftovers, but with the pandemic, stores are closing one after the other.""
2. The street dogs are left to their own devices, they can't find anything to eat in the deserted streets. They will starve if Ivana can no longer bring them kibble!
"We especially need help to keep the street dogs alive, as food is now very difficult to get. Dogs that don’t eat enough will lose their immunity and that will result in them getting sick more easily and then probably dying. Strays can become aggressive if they aren’t fed and that can result in them being poisoned or killed in any other horrible way.
Vasa is 1,5 years old, he was found as a puppy, in the litter of 4 puppies. But they all got sick with distemper and he was only one to survive. As a result of distemper his muscles are twitching now. His health is not the best at the moment. I am not able to give him treatment on time. He is exposed to everyday risk of getting poisoned. Recently a few dogs in his area died beacuse of that and Vasa was the fortunate one to avoid eating the poison"
3. Due to the pandemic, Ivana no longer receive her salary. Already very indebted, she can't buy kibbles!
"After the COVID-19 pandemic started my company got closed and it will stay that way until everything is over. Until then, I won’t have a monthly salary that I am used to and that will make it harder for both me and my shelter to survive this crisis.
We are unable to buy kibble because we have huge debts already. We owe around 2.000 euros to vets and, additionally, 400 euros to pet shops"
4. Dedicated to animals since always, Ivana is devastated by the situation
"Dogs are not just animals, but our true friends. You can see that only if you pay close attention.There is a huge amount of dogs who in their whole lifetime only felt pain and misery.
Even though I saw a lot of disturbing and sad cases of dogs througout the years, I still weep over every new case that I find. It still hurts me very much. I want to help those dogs and find them a home which they deserve and where they will be happy."
5. Ivana doesn't want money, just kibbles to prevent the dogs from starving to death
"Because of the COVID-19 pandemic a lot of factories and companies which are producing dog food are closing and I am afraid that I won ‘t be able to find and buy food.
With the curfew that starts at 5pm, I don't have enough time to look for food, prepare everything and go back home.
I am helpless beacuse there is a rapidly growing number of abandoned dogs and I am unable to help them : both financially and physically."

"’In the last couple of months we only admitted the hardest cases to our shelter. Those who were seriously injured, sick or endangered. The reason for that is our lack of resources. We don’t have enough money and food to look after all of the dogs, unfortunately.
People in Serbia are not very much inclined to helping of the abandoned animals. A lot of people in our surroundings find us weird because we dedicate a lot of our time to these dogs. They just think it’s weird to have a shelter and spend a lot of money and time on it. People that want to help are usually people who already have a number of animals they are taking care of on their own. And those kind of donations are rare.
We’ve had a lot of help from friendly associatons from France, but they can’t help us as much anymore beacuse there, in France, has been a rise in abandoned dogs as well."
