1) In Romania, Valcea's pound doesn't feed all 400 dogs... If nobody does anything, they will starve locked up in their dirty boxes!
"For several weeks now, I've been fighting body and soul to cope with this difficult situation. I take in many sick dogs abandoned in the street, I take out dogs that are about to die at the pound, I also take care of sick dogs whose owners had no money to take care of them.
My debts are getting higher and higher. Today I can't even treat all the dogs anymore. So I can't afford to buy dog food..."
2) Due to a lack of means, the town hall does not buy enough kibble for all the dogs: a shortage that leads the strongest to attack the weakest in order not to die of hunger...
"Dogs are fighting over the little kibble distributed by the town hall employees: the dominant ones hurt the weakest very badly. Weakened by the lack of food, attacked by their fellow dogs, many have died...
In the same way, when a dog is sick and has no food, it cannot fight the disease, which causes the death of many of them! I'm afraid that with the confinement the situation is getting worse, I'm helpless, I feel lost..."
3) Elise was injured by other dogs, she was so hungry that she tried to approach a bowl of kibble... She'll be one of the first to die of hunger if we don't send kibble urgently!
"Elise is a very friendly dog, but she's proof that fighting over a few kibbles can be dramatic. Elise would never fight another dog, but she was attacked for trying to eat...
We are trying to treat her in the pound with antibiotics and other medicines, but unfortunately we can't get her out of this hell anymore ... If this situation continues, if we don't find more kibble soon, Elise won't survive long at the pound..."
4) Florentina is afraid for the 400 dogs living in the pound: without kibble, they won't survive!
"At the pound, the living conditions are unimaginable, even though I try to bring the dogs the minimum (pallets, bowls, straw, cages). Often, the concrete floor is wet and covered with excrement because there are too many dogs in one box. Only food can save them to fight so much misfortune...
There are 400 dogs, I can't feed them all without donations, I can't afford it!"
5) Confinement has led to an increase in the number of abandonments: Florentina tries to save as many as possible by welcoming them in her own bedroom! Today, she can no longer afford to feed them all...
"Dogs are my daily life on the street, at the pound, in my shelter or in my house... In all these places, I have to provide for the primary needs of a few hundred dogs - 700 to 800 dogs in total.
To feed them, to take care of them if they are sick, to take them to the vet, to sterilize females, etc. We are too few volunteers to save them all!"
6) Florentina doesn't need money, just kibble to feed the dogs at the pound ...
"I can no longer cope on my own because today more and more dogs have been abandoned, more than usual. The dogcatchers continue to catch more and more dogs in the streets, but nobody adopts anymore. There are even more mouths to feed, more sacrifices to make to get food.
I'm forced to choose between caring for the dogs and feeding them! This situation can't go on, I can't choose, it's not fair to them..."
7) Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania. We can deliver kibbles despite the pandemic, but we have to be quick, transport could be cut off soon!

8) The main issue in Romania is that is it hard to find sponsorships to buy kibble, there is no foundation, no grant. Lots of dogs are dying in the streets without anyone looking...

12) Restrictions related to lockdown did not allow us to visit the pound for this action
Due to the current health crisis, Romania has been placed in lockdown since March 13. As movements have been drastically reduced and controlled, it was impossible for us to visit the pound to prepare this action.
However, Animal Webaction has been visiting Valcea Public Shelter many times over the past two years, including this winter. We are in close contact with Florentina, who has allowed us to prepare this action, and in whom we place all our trust.
