"The food we have, we had to take in on credit, and it will soon be over. Everything is closed, animals are not regarded as an essential service. The climate for animal rescue in Morocco is becoming a precarious one.
We have emergencies every single day, and we don't take in healthy dogs. So we have a lot of sick dogs, and our vets have closed their doors, it's very unfrequent that they allow us in. We have very limited help, no volunteers, we have to monitor sick dogs ourselves. Caring of the shelter and new rescues leaves little time to ask for donations and update people.
But everyday regardless of what is deemed essential or not, we are fighting to save lives."
“Crowded enclosures... lead to fights. And more fights on an empty belly. Lucy likes to think that food is fuel. Their belly going empty with their small enclosures would make them angry and they will fight. It is not sustainable, even for our mental health, it is really stressful.
And it’s impossible to say no to new rescues, I feel like we are obliged to attend, we struggle and suffer when we don’t have enough, but we can never say no."
"Simo was tied very tight in a garden, we took him in as he ways malnourished and traumatized. He hid for days under the bed. He us recovering physically and emotionally, slowly gaining weight, but for now he is still skeleton and weak. He recovers slowly, he needs food."
"There is a lot more strays on the street, lots of hungry dogs, because of the pandemic. Many problems shoving them away, they relied on restaurants so far, but they can't anymore. They have no access to food, they’re going crazy out there. We provide food for about 100 street dogs.
We also see a real increase in the cases of rabies, as the authorities are not doing anything to fight rabies because of the coronavirus. So there is a lot on our plate considering the pandemic."
“Giving them food is the very first step of helping them. That’s what makes us a shelter. There is no point if we take them in and can’t feed them.
We are mentally tired of having such huge responsibilities of having hundreds of lives relying on us, respecting the promises we’ve made. There is so much pressure to not be enough." said Fanny.
"I feel tired. Full of anxiety and exhaustion, trying to think of ways to have food, so that we don’t run out" confirmed Lucy.
"We have many debts already, and our supplier is overwhelmed, she warns us about a possible shortage
There are dogs in our shelters, like Bindi, who are adopted and cannot leave right now, they wait for corona to be over to join their families in Europe. They need food, we can’t let them down so close to their end goal"
Animal Webaction has a logistics center in Morocco, still active despite the lockdown, which allows it to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
“I think people are also struggling to find out what their future will be. It is hard for them to donate, they support us with words but we can totally understand that it is not possible for them. Even if we feel like we are begging everyday.
It’s heart breaking to make a animals wait. It’s soul destroying to choose one over the other but this is what we are being forced to do."

Due to the current health crisis, Morocco has been placed in lockdown since March 20. As movements have been drastically reduced and controlled, it was impossible for us to visit the shelter to prepare this action.
However, Animal Webaction visited Fanny and Lucy's shelters only a few months ago. We are in close contact with them (they helped us prepare this campaign), and and grant them all our trust.
