Animal Webaction visited the site 03 May 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1) In Romania, Ildiko is no longer able to feed the 280 dogs of the shelter. If no one does anything, they'll starve to death!

"The abandonment rate has increased significantly since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. We rescued 20 new dogs last month, half of which are puppies. It breaks my heart to see all these animals suddenly lose their families. The dogs do not understand the situation, they just feel lost, confused and scared.

To make matters worse, the crisis has had a big impact on our donations, we have no more food, the dogs are eating hard bread and the few kibbles left. With the number of dogs at the shelter increasing at a glance, there's not enough to eat!"

2) There are too many dogs: tensions are already high and with the stock of kibbles running out, the dogs could kill each other!

###

"The lack of food forces me to reduce the dogs' rations, some of them have already started to lose weight. They are more aggressive and agitated, fights have already nearly broken out, I had to intervene and separate the dogs.

If I can't find food quickly, I will have to give the dogs soaked bread. This is not a balanced diet, it could have serious consequences on their health. The many puppies are at risk of developing immune problems.

Besides, many of my dogs are taking regular medical treatments and with the current situation, I am afraid that I will have to sacrifice the budget spent on medication in order to buy food, I can't leave my sick dogs untreated!"

3) Trixie has recently undergone two surgeries, she is very weak and needs kibble to recover!

###

"We found Trixie near a body of water, pregnant and with a hernia, covered in ticks. In the last two weeks, she has had her hernia removed and has been sterilized.

She still has ticks in her ears as you can see on the picture, but she is taking treatment and this problem should soon be fixed. She's very thin and needs to be fed very regularly to regain her strength after the surgeries she underwent."

4) Because of the confinement, Ildiko has no more income, she's exhausted and cannot buy kibble.

###

"I'm having a hard time coping with the current situation at the shelter because donations have never been so low. People don't donate anymore because they have lost their jobs and have no more income, the economic situation is very uncertain. I myself have had to stop working ever since the quarantine started, I no longer have enough money to run the shelter.

I spend my days at the shelter and make daily sacrifices to be able to help the dogs in need. I am also unable to find volunteers to come and help at the shelter because of the current national restrictions. The increasing abandonments' rate only adds to my frustration."

5) Ildiko isn't asking for money, she only wants kibble to keep the dogs from starving to death!

###

"A lot of people here are now unemployed or earning only half of their salary, their priorities have shifted. They can't make a donation to the shelter since they can barely support themselves.

I can't afford the cost of food for the dogs at the shelter on my own. Usually a team of 10 volunteers also take care of the street dogs, which are too wild and aggressive to be taken to the shelter. Alone, I don't have enough to feed them, they might starve to death".

6) Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania, in spite of the lockdown we can deliver kibbles all over the country!

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania, still active despite the lockdown, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7) Ildiko has been calling for help for weeks but the situation is still getting worse, this food campaign is her last hope.

"With this pandemic crisis, animal abandonment is plentiful. We are constantly taking in new dogs and running out of food. All the animal welfare associations are in the same situation and unfortunately we cannot help one another.

I can't take care of everything on my own, I don't have a job anymore because of the pandemic and I don't know when I will be able to resume an activity. I eat toast with jam but it's not something I can give the dogs. I am trying to sell personal belongings to secure food purchases but it's just not enough".

9) In Romania, it is difficult to find funds for kibbles, there are no aid, no grants, no foundation... Many abandoned dogs die alone in the streets, in complete indifference...
