Animal Webaction visited the site 16 May 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Serbia, Jelena is running out of kibble to feed her 35 dogs. If no one takes action, they will starve to death!

"The biggest problem we have right now is not being able to buy food for our dogs. With the pandemic, there is a shortage of kibble the shops.

The kibble we actually manage to buy are very expensive. For this reason we have to choose the cheapest options available but even then, we can't buy enough. Right now, we only have 5 bags left...This will only last a couple of more days...

Our dogs absolutely cannot stay without food! If the situation goes any longer, they will starve to death. I don't even want to think about that."

2. Jelena's shelter is home to many sick dogs. Without kibble, they won't survive!

###
Dole has been diagnosed with diabetes and has cataract in both eyes.

"We have sick dogs at all times. Last couple of months already were bad enough, we have lot of new dogs now, there have been surgeries for broken bones, diseases such as babesiosis, diabetes etc...

We have many dogs who have been hit by cars, many old dogs as well. And six dogs with heartworms, that require a very lengthy and expensive medical therapy.

On top of that, COVID19 happened and we are getting desperate."

3. Rocky is still recovering from his previous injuries, without food, he might die!

###

"Rocky was hit by a car and left in front of our shelter when he was only 2 months old. He had a broken leg due to the impact with the car... After 2 surgeries he can walk and run but he's still very skinny.

He is still a puppy and needs to eat a lot to be able to grow normally. Without food he will die."

4. Jelena is dedicating her life to her dogs but despite all her efforts, bills are piling up. She can no longer buy kibble!

###

"At the start of the year we had some serious problems with the dogs' health. Between this and the more recent visits, we've spent spend large amounts of money at the vet's, we have debts.

In addition, we have to purchase water weekly, because the tap water here is not drinkable due to arsenic contamination. That's an additional expense of €90 per week for us to pay.

The adoptions have ceased completely. Even the dogs that already had owners waiting for them cannot be released from the shelter, the dogs are not allowed to cross borders because of lockdown.

All of these issues are making it really hard for us to buy kibble for our dogs."

5. Jelena isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving!

###

"My mother Dragoslava and I take care of our dogs at the shelter and we also feed some street dogs which we can't take in due to lack of space. There are even some dogs staying at my grandmother's house.

I can't understand people who hurt, displace or kill dogs. This whole community exists because of people like that...

The dogs require 24-hour attention and care, we devote our lives to them."

6. If this campaign is successful, Jelena will not receive any money but 1200 kg of kibble will be delivered from the Animal Webaction logistic platform in Serbia

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Serbia, still active despite the confinement, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Jelena has many expenses and not enough support. This call for help is her last hope to feed her 35 dogs!

"We've had a big decrease in donations ever since the start of the pandemic since many people are left without jobs and income.

People don't even have enough money for their own necessities let alone a dog’s. We need help to feed our dogs!"

8. Actions launched on Animal Webaction often fail

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The organizer doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Serbia, street dogs are hunted by the state and ignored by the population. Without shelters like  Jelena’s, they would have no chance to survive...

If you know of a foundation or NGO that could help Jelena, please invite them to contact us so that we can put them in touch.

If you represent an animal protection foundation or NGO, please help Jelena’s dogs, contact us and we will put you in touch!
