Animal Webaction visited the site 12 July 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Leeny will soon be out of kibble to feed the 40 street dogs she cares for. If no one intervenes, they will starve to death!

"In the Rif Mountains where our shelter is located there is a huge amount of wild and abandoned dogs. You see them most of the time in the nights, near campingsides, trashbins and properties searching for food.

We usually see dogs with plenty of injury and sickness, dogs that have diseases, and plenty of stray dogs around. Without food, strays get sick very quickly, they get weak and they die usually.

We only have 100 kg of food now, while we need 50kgs weekly to feed them, and 30kg everyday for the dogs hosted at our shelter..."

2. Leeny's shelter is home to 47 dogs, they too are at risk of starvation if Leeny doesn't find kibble.

"With the lockdown, we struggled a lot and we went through some very tough days. We lost a lot of support. Sometimes we run out of food and we have nothing to give to the dogs, so we give them our food and we try to get through the day.

The dogs get grumpy when they’re underfed and they start fighting a lot which causes a lot of injuries, they start barking a lot. They get skinny and weak. Some dogs are in bad conditions and they need food every day and if they don’t get it they might even die."

3. Starved for years, Renee is extremely weak, he won't survive without kibble.

###

"Renee was put out of his duty as a hunting dog, his owner abandoned him when he got sick. This dog was starved to death by his owner, they underfed dogs so they perform well in hunting, so if the dog catches something he or she will get fed if not they get nothing. Renee lived his whole life like this because when we found him he had a collar and when we asked somebody about him he explained his story.

Right now, Renee is so weak. They found a lot of worms inside his belly and his skin condition is so extreme. Any illness will kill him."

4. Morocco's extended lockdown has worsened the precariousness of the shelter: Leeny lacks everything, she can no longer buy kibble!

###

"We have space here but we don’t have the budget to support more dogs. We lack support and financial integrity. We tried to contact other organisations multiple times, but received no help from them for now,.

Our budget is so tight we barely make ends meet, between the food for the dogs, the vet, and the transportation. We have no electricity or running water. Which makes it so hard for us to navigate through the shelter at night since there is no street lights or anything. The shelter is located in the mountains.

Dogs suffer hunger, and we don't know how we can afford to buy more kibbles."

5. Leeny is not asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"I built up the shelter on my own a year ago, I had nobody but the dogs I rescued, and then I was joined by my boyfriend Quentin.

I traveled to Morocco the first time in 2014, and made friends with various street dogs. But my entire pack ended up poisonned. In February 2019 I decided to come back to Morocco in order to help. To create a place where dogs can experience love, acceptance and health for the first time in their lifes’. And a place where I and also you – where we – can fight for animal rights. "

6. If this campaign succeeds, Leeny will not receive any money but 3000 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.

7. Despite several attempts, Leeny is unable to get help, she and the dogs need this campaign to get kibble.

" We are quite new, not a lot of people know us but we’re trying our best. We have no friendly association helping us because they struggle themselves too.

The quarantine also made a lot of people lose their jobs, so nobody will give if they don’t have in the first place. Donations dropped, because of the quarantine, we lost a lot of support.

Today, most of what we have come from Instagram, and it isn't much. We tried other things but it wasn't working."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The recipient doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded in full.

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies . It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many dogs remain starving in the street!

If you know of a foundation or NGO that could help Leeny, please invite them to contact us so that we can connect them.

If you represent a Foundation or an NGO for animal welfare, please help Leeny's dogs, contact us and we will put you in touch!

If you want to come to the shelter and help Leeny or if you want to send her directly some kibbles or a check, please contact her via the shelter's website (note: direct help is under your own responsibility).
