Animal Webaction visited the site 27 July 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Bosnia, Nejira will soon run out of kibble to feed the 114 dogs at Zunovnica's pound. The town hall cannot give any : if nobody takes action, these dogs will starve!

###

"There are 114 dogs at Zunovnica's pound at the moment. Although it is a technically a public facility, the town hall is in no financial capacity to provide food or treatments for the dogs, they are only able to pay the salaries of the two employees working there. Anything else has to be collected by other means.

This is what myself, and two other volunteers, Ajla and Dalila try to do. We organize fundraisings online, to collect money for food and vet costs. But with the pandemic, it has become harder and harder. At the beginning, we had problems with food deliveries, as the borders were closed. And ever since, we've been having been issues with raising funds.

People are harder to be convinced into donating and the number of dogs is still big. We are not getting enough donations to buy food for the dogs...Currently we have food until Friday 31.07. It's definitely our number 1 priority. I cannot sleep thinking about what will happen if we don’t get the food. Their lives depends on us!"

2. The dogs have already become aggressive because of the lack of food, they might kill each other in case of starvation!

###

"At the moment the dogs eat the cheapest kibble on our market, what we've got left of it. Just over a week ago, we were also giving them old bread from the bakery. With the drop in donations, we are forced to use these methods in order to have food for longer. But even in doing so, the tiny amount we have left is running out fast.

When we switch the food to bread or bones, the dogs get diarrhea, they become aggressive and start fighting over food, in fact, fights have already started.

If the situation goes on any longer, the dogs could starve. Apart from us the 3 volunteers, nobody provides food for them. 50 kilos of kibble is needed daily to feed all dogs. In a month, that amounts to 1500 KG."

3. Vucko was abandoned by his owner, who deemed him too old. Old and submissive, he will be among the first dogs to starve or be killed by others in case of starvation!

###

"Vučko is a 10-year-old male, he's been living at the pound for 10 months. His owner just left him in here because of his old age. He was very weak when he arrived, the vet had to put him on a drip.

Vučko is still a weak dog, he's unable to get to food from the other dogs and is unwilling to fight for it. I don’t know what will happen to him if we don’t find food. It is hard to sleep knowing you're responsible for someone’s life.

It is hard to look at those beautiful dogs locked in a shelter, so the least we can do is keep them fed. We know that if we don't find  solution to feed them, nobody else will try to."

4. Nejira balances a full-time job and her volunteer work at the public pound. She's doing her best for the dogs but donations are not coming in : she can no longer buy kibble!

###

"On my regular job I have more obligations, I have to stay after 5pm to work so I have less time for the dogs. It is much harder to plan the day than before, but I am doing my best.

Still, it's hard to manage everything, especially with the fundraisings. Every 15 days it's the same worry : "Will we be able to collect money to feed these dogs?". At the moment it's definitely harder than before, which is why I am asking for your help.

I am aware of the current situation in the world, because of the pandemic, nobody knows what will happen tomorrow so people are being more careful about their money - but the dogs need to eat, we need your help!"

5. Nejira isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving!

%%%

"Dogs are the love of my life, it is so unfair for them to end up here, like this, hopeless and dependent of others. And for me, it's hard to acknowledge that sometimes you can’t help every dog, but I figured that every life counts and if I can save one dog that is one life. For years I've doing my best to help them, and re-home them as much as I can.

Myself and 3 other volunteers have been working very hard to improve Zunovnica's pound. It's important to say that shelter was not open to the public before, it was a kill shelter. We fought for one year to get inside. Now the situation is better, we have made a deal with them.

Last year we built a fence around the shelter, now all dogs can go also outside. If we don't find food for these dogs, all our efforts will be for nothing!"

6. If this campaign is successful, Nejira will not receive any money but 2200 kg of kibble will be delivered from the Animal Webaction logistic platform in Bosnia

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Cries for help from volunteers did not work: the kibble stock is almost used out and there is no money left to buy more! This campaign is their last hope...

"We need food urgently! In a matter of days, we will have zero food left in the shelter. We need 50KG daily to feed all 114 dogs, food is our priority!

It is hard to raise money for everything. We know, people get tired, because most of the time it is the same people donating. You are our last resort !  Please help and share."
