Animal Webaction visited the site 25 July 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Rokaya has no more kibble to feed street dogs. They will starve if nobody does anything!

"The lockdown and the pandemic directly affect the economic situation in the city. Because many people suffered from a loss in income, or a job loss, there’s less help for the abandoned dogs.

Dogs are getting hungry, they are less healthy. They are eating what they can from trash, and people risk to attack them. They are always afraid of human beings, they are frightened, it is difficult to get close to them.

It’s a very hard situation. We live day by day already with the shelter, and there is very little help. We are always worrying that they won’t find food. This is not to mention other issues as well. So, it’s urgent."

2. Caramel lives on the street with her puppies, but she's sick, and is only skin and bones. All of them will starve if Rokaya doesn't find kibble.

###

"Caramel is only one year old. I found her in the neighborhood, started  taking care of her, giving her food. Unfortunatly she is sick, she suffers from jaundice. She also has babies, that she still feeds, but we haven't been able to find them yet. According to the neighbours, there are about 10.

So we are trying to treat her on the street, but she isn't well and is already very skinny, they are all at risk without food."

3. Rokaya also houses 56 dogs in her shelter. They too are threatened by the lack of kibble.

"The dogs do not always eat enough, specifically sick dogs who need double the serving size of what a normal dog would eat. At the end of each day, I’m left with no to very little food.

I can only feed them rice most of the time, I mix it with dry food whenever I have some. Without enough food, they become more nervous, more stressed out and they will fight over food, sometimes.

Also, they are less healthy, and I'm especially worried about the sick ones, who's health cannot improve."

4. Found on the street in a critical condition, Clay remains extremely weak and thin, he cannot survive without kibble.

###

"Clay is a former stray dog, he's about 3 years old. He was living on the streets of Sefrou city, but was in such a bad shape that he's been picked up by someone there, who brought him to the veterinarian, and eventually to my shelter.

He is still extremely thin, and suffers from an extreme skin condition. He needs more food than other dogs, because he's very weak and sick, he won't recover otherwise."

5. The pandemic has greatly reduced the donations received by the association, Rokaya is overwhelmed, she can no longer buy kibbles.

###

"Because of the pandemic, we’ve had a big drop in donations. Some people even ask for the shelter to take care of their own house cats because they cannot take care of them anymore.

I have debts at the veterinarian clinic (operations, sterilizations, etc.), need to pay for the transportation of the animals whenever they are sick or get rescued. I also have the rent for the shelter, and the salaries for the two employees.

I am always stressed and worried about the situation, and fear for the dogs' well being. It affects me on a personal level, and I cannot focus on other important missions. It's too much for me on my own,  I’m feeling overwelhmed with the whole situation."

6. Rokaya is not asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"I found out a few years ago that there isn’t a single organization that could take care of stray animals in Tetuan. Before that, I wasn’t aware of the injustice that had been taking place here.

All I knew is that there are animals living on the streets and that they needed to be fed and given water. So I started to take care of them, and shortly after created an organization, based after the ADAN association in Rabat, but we function independantly from one another.

My shelter is the first local shelter ever in Tetuan. My ambition is to see to it that the dogs and cats find food and medication in the city. I ardently hope that people become more conscious and that we have enough help so that people are more devoted. Volunteers are not enough."

7. If this campaign succeeds, Rokaya will not receive any money but 2000 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.

8. Rokaya's calls for help are not enough to get her back on her feet, she needs this campaign to succeed.

"In Morocco, some people don’t trust organizations to donate to them while others don’t believe in helping animals altogether. They only believe in helping humans. To them, unfortunately, animals always come second. As the well-being of stray animals is secondary to them, the animals become neglected and the care for these stray animals becomes unnecessary.

That is to say, when people are busy paying their bills, they can’t find the means to donate to stray animals, even if it’s only a matter of food! This is what many people believe and it makes them not donate or to donate less."

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the organizer receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.

10. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies . It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many dogs remain starving in the street!
