Animal Webaction visited the site 12 August 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

Animal Webaction cannot be held responsible for dog deaths due to the absence of kibble. Why ?

1. In Serbia, due to the pandemic, many dogs have been abandoned in the streets. Ivana and Ana have no more kibble to feed them: they will starve if nobody intervenes!

‘’There have been lots of abandoned dogs since the pandemic, the number of these poor animals drastically went up. Although we have accepted many, there are still lots of them on the streets. We are packed full, there is no more room! There are lots of them out there, and we believe there will be more.

Since people have started caring less about them, these dogs become malnourished and very nervous, often fighting each other. Their immunity starts to drop quickly. There is not enough food, there are too many dogs that need it, and alone, we can’t cover all of it, it is impossible.

2. The different shelters of the association are now hosting 113 dogs, Ivana and Ana have almost no more kibble for them either.

‘’We accepted 43 new dogs in a very short time. There is not enough food for everyone, so we are rationing it as well as we can. Right now we have 1 bag of dry food that weighs 10 kilos and 30 kilos of old meat. Although we are still able to secure leftovers from some restaurants and bakeries, we don’t know for how long this is going to last, and it isn't enough.

We need kibble desperately and we are out of money to secure more. Without the food, dogs get sick, it affects their health, and it also affects their behaviour. If we don't find food, we will definitely have to stop taking in new dogs. It is a difficult question, we have no idea what could happen if we don't get help soon.’’

3. Suffering from a severe infection and infested with worms, Wormy was rescued as he was dying on the street. Barely healed, he remains very fragile and needs kibble to survive.

###

"End of July, we received pictures of an exhausted puppy being attacked by flies. We had to act fast, we knew that worms were making chaos under his skin. We found him curled in the grass, a nasty ear infection had started everything.

We bathed him, he had worms litterally everywhere. We managed to get rid of it, and he just finished his treatment. He is about 3 months old, his immune system is still low, he needs food to get by."

4. With a handful of volunteers, Ivana and Ana struggle to keep their heads above water. But debts and abandonment keep piling up, they can no longer buy kibble!

###

"There are so many things to do, on a daily basis. When you look at all the dogs that need help, our few numbers, our poor financial situation, and the lack of food that we are experiencing, you can understand how it is and what we face regularly.

We have a considerable debt at the local vet, we are already lucky that he helps us. Since there are no donations in cash, we can’t get enough kibble. We do buy as much as we can, even from our own pocket which really affects our personal life, but these are not amounts that can feed more than 200 dogs regularly, it’s not enough, it’s actually far from enough.

We are feeling very sorry and our hearts are breaking because we can’t save them all. It is very frustrating to know that you have failed one of these wonderful creatures by not being able to help."

5. Ivana and Ana are not asking for money, just kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

’We are disappointed with the fact that people have stopped caring about dogs. Of course, some do, but now, there are a lot more of those who don’t. This pandemic has made lots of people nervous. When people get nervous, dogs do too, and that makes our job hard. Not to mention that our lack of resources makes all of this much more difficult to bear.

The moment we secure enough food for our dogs and make sure that they are well taken care of, we can continue working on our goal to help people understand that these dogs are their friends and that they should be kind to them. Their behavior affects the animals and they should understand that. It should not be so hard to be kind towards a dog."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Ivana and Ana will not receive any money, but 2400 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic centre directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Donations have been in freefall since the pandemic, and despite its appeals for help the association does't manage to get out of this bad patch.

’Ever since the pandemic started, lots of people have lost their jobs and they are scared because our country has…lots of problems. Now, some people are scared, others become more opportunistic. Most of them simply don’t regard this as a top priority, they believe that spending money or resources on this is a waste of time.

We get along well with other associations and receive occasional help from a German organisation, but that's not enough.

Of course, we love these animals and care for them, so we will always help them in any way we can. But without additional help, it will be really hard to fix all these problems.’’

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.
