Animal Webaction visited the site 15 August 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

Animal Webaction cannot be held responsible for dog deaths due to the absence of kibble. Why ?

1. In Serbia, Svetlana will soon run out of kibble to feed the 90 dogs at her shelter : they will starve if nobody intervenes!

%%%

"I have 90 dogs at the shelter currently. We're mainly supported by the public communal company. But unfortunately with the pandemic, times are rough and the municipality cannot give enough funding now. What they do give is nowhere near enough to maintain the shelter.

I also take care of an additional 26 dogs in my house, mostly dogs who are injured or sick, who need the most attention. This number keeps getting bigger. I have to buy a lot of things from my own pocket, like the medication. The sick animals cannot wait...

I believe every dog deserves a chance and I will do anything in my power to give these dogs a chance. But at the moment though, the lack of money and food is preventing me from doing more. If the dogs will not get enough food, I am afraid they will starve and might even die of malnourishment."

2. Svetlana has already had to stop rescuing dogs from the street due to lack of kibble...

###

"Currently we do not have enough food so I cannot rescue more dogs from the streets or feed the strays like I used to. But I still get calls about abandoned dogs frequently, as usual. I am worried about the dogs welfare...

I just really hope that we will get more funding and food soon, so we will be able to accept more dogs, and help as many as possible. Because if not, there will be more and more dogs on the streets and they might die of hunger or possibly hurt each other, this happens from to time unfortunately...

At the shelter, this will also cause many problems. If the dogs don't get enough food, they will get agitated and start fighting. I cannot let this happen."

3. Kolka was attacked on the streets by other dogs. Very weakened, a steady and abundant diet is crucial to her recovery : she needs kibble !

###

"Kolka is a 2-year-old female. We found her in a local park, she was a street dog. She got into a fight with some dogs and got hurt badly. She has wound on her legs, back and around the butt area. Her tail had to be cut off, because it was that damaged.

She is currently staying at my houe because she requires every day attention and medicine. Quality and abondant food are a must for her to get better and stronger. Without it, she definitely won't recover."

4. Despite some help received from the villagers and the municipality, Svetlana's expenses to care for the abandoned dogs are greater than her donations : she can no longer buy kibble!

###

"The main issue for running the shelter is that there is no consistency. There is no consistency of receiving funding or medication.

The municipality does not have enough money, they cannot give more funds. But the dogs need their daily intake of food and medicine. And the bill at the vet keeps getting bigger...

We also have no running water or electricity at the shelter and this makes every day life difficult. "

5. Svetlana is not asking for money, just kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"I started rescuing animals in 2008, at the time, there was an even greater number of dogs on the street and there was not much done for them. I have been fighting for animal rights ever since.

I get no free days, I come to the shelter even on weekends. Also I have to take care the sick dogs at my house. Besides me, there is one more volunteer, who helps with the dogs. But that is just not enough. It would be great if I could hire some workers, but we do not have enough money for this.

Rescuing and caring for dogs is worrying and hard, but I am also hopeful that we will be able to make them safe them from starvation, give them a better environment and a safe home. That's my goal in rescuing them."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Svetlana will not receive any money, but 1800 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic centre directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

8. In Serbia, street dogs are hunted by the State and ignored by the population, volunteers like Ivana and Ana are their only hope
