Animal Webaction visited the site 30 August 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

Animal Webaction cannot be held responsible for dog deaths due to the absence of kibble. Why?

1) In Serbia, Svetlana will soon run out of kibble to feed the 108 dogs in her shelter: they will die of hunger if no one intervenes!

"I am barely managing to buy food. I cover the rest of the expenses with my salary, such as electricity, water, fuel, etc.

The problem is that today I only have 30 kilos of kibbles that will only last 2 days, so I started rationing them while waiting to find a way to buy some more...

If I don't find food quickly, the fragile dogs will become even sicker and weaker, the healthy ones will get sick... There are many of them and if there is a lack of food, they will probably become nervous, aggressive..."

2) The shelter is full, there are so many dogs that Svetlana can no longer buy kibbles for all: the most fragile will not survive!

"There are no new dogs recently welcomed because I have nowhere to put them... There's no more room and the conditions just don't allow it. I have to build new boxes, but without anyone to help me I can't manage on my own.

Finding kibble is very difficult for me. It's always a fight... Lack of food is a difficulty that we encounter all the time, it's endless. If there is not enough food for all the dogs I take care of, they can be in danger of death: many of them are sick and it would affect them very seriously. Finding dog food is my biggest concern and I dread it every day".

3) Poor little Paivii is just recovering from her illness, she won't survive without kibbles!

"Paivii is a small female who had to fight to recover from a very violent virus... Today, if I don't give her an adapted food like kibble, I'm afraid that she won't survive at the shelter..."

4) Volunteers are scarce and no employee wants to stay at the shelter: Svetlana is desperately lonely!

"At the moment there is only one volunteer from the Netherlands who is only there temporarily There is no one else. We are waiting for a worker to come during the week and we will see if he can work with us, even twice a month, which would mean a lot to us.

We have a hard time finding workers, nobody stays for long. The longest time a person worked was 13 days! People think that the work is simple, that all dogs are wonderful and cuddly, but when they realize that there is a lot of work that they didn't expect, they give up".

5) Svetlana doesn't ask for money, just kibbles to keep the dogs from starving.

"This shelter has become my life, I love these dogs and I try in every way to help them lead a much better life. Anyone who has the opportunity to see me here like you do today can conclude how real my commitment to them is and how I try to make their lives easier.

But it is indeed difficult to run a shelter. Donations have been scarce since the coronavirus. There are no volunteers. I hope that the worker who promised to come, will come. I will call him tonight to remind him... If he cancels, we're really going to fall apart.

Adoption is also difficult because you can't give a dog to everyone. The person has to be interested and show that they love dogs because I wouldn't want someone to take a dog and then realize that they still can't take care of it."

6) If this campaign succeeds, Svetlana will not receive any money, but 2400 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic centre directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7) In spite of her calls for help, Svetlana has to continue to fight alone to get kibble .

"Donations are normally spent on dog food, surgery, veterinary bills, etc. But the money is mostly spent on food, which is our main expense. Unfortunately there is also the rent to pay, the construction costs and the regular fees of the veterinarian ... It is simply unmanageable at the moment.

Many people think that he knows better than anyone else, people often don't understand what it takes for a shelter to survive. Of course, there are those who think that maintaining a shelter is simple and doesn't take a lot of time and dedication. It is necessary to explain to these people what all dogs living in shelters need because they are in very difficult living conditions...".

8) Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9) In Serbia, street dogs are hunted by the State and ignored by the population, volunteers like Svetlana are their only hope
