Animal Webaction visited the site 03 September 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In North Macedonia, Ivana has no more kibble to feed the many dogs abandoned in the streets and at the landfills : they will starve if nobody intervenes!

%%%

"During the lockdown there were days when no one was allowed to leave their homes, which led to canine behavior disorders for pets. Also, people have lost their jobs due to the lenght of this pandemic and can barely provide for their families. So people just started to get rid of their pets, we find more and more purebreed dogs and chipped ones, that the owners do not want to take back.

Those dogs who were left on the streets starved, as there were no working restaurants to feed from. And the situation is still the same. A heartbreaking point is when individual rescuers on the field ask us to help out with food because their dogs are starving in the neighbourhood. And it is true, skeletons everywhere, there are no leftovers in the trash anymore, so that resource of some food that street dogs used to have has dried up.

But currently there is no food for everyone, I only have 3 more bags of dog food which are meant for strays."

2. Thrown at the dump 8 months ago, Edie gets by thanks to Ivana's care, but he remains weak and will not survive without kibbles.

###

"He is one of the weakest dogs. Most probably left on the dump because he was no good in dog fighting as many central asian shepherd dogs we have picked up from here.

We have been treating him for almost 8 months now, as he had a severely advanced demodex. He doesn't like getting in contact with people, so he will need to be caught by dart gun and undergo spay and further medical and social evaluation. "

3. Ivana's small shelter is now home to 70 dogs, kibbles are missing for them too!

%%%

"The shelter is full, and there are still people leaving their pets at my door ... It's very difficult to find a new home for these pets. I have to call the vet more often due to an increase of ill and infected dogs, those ones will die first due to their poor immunity and no strength if I don't find food.

The situation is just getting worse by the day. The feeling is like getting airless so the rope around the neck is tighthening up every day. What do I tell the dogs one day, yes we took you into safety to find you a home and a better life than the streets or the dump, but sorry there's no food today ?

It's the basic necessity of animal welfare for all dogs, not just the ill ones. My fears are that we may have to close and to leave the dogs on the streets, it's a day of doom scenario for me, I don't know if I can live through that. All these dogs live with me and are mine till they get adopted so this is my biggest nightmare."

4. Arrived at the shelter shortly before our visit, Caesar suffers from several parasitic diseases: no treatment will be able to save him without kibble.

###

"Caesar is our newest arrival, we set some of our quarantine kennels so he could come over directly, he came in 3 days ago.

He is severely anemic, has several parasitic diseases and demodex as well. Treatment will be at least 3 months before he looks like a normal dog again. The lack of food for him will mean death, because he is already severely emaciated."

5. Ivana has been facing one problem after another for months without failing, but is finding it harder and harder to hold on. She can't buy kibbles and can't cope with dogs being hungry.

###

"I've had to take care of so many dogs, too many really, and many who were already mentally unstable and/or ill. I am risking my mental health, I find it hard to withstand the emotional stress. I am also 7 months pregnant, so taking care of these dogs is getting harder due to my pregnancy.

It's emotionally hard for me to realize that someone is starving. If I know that I fed everyone in the morning, my day goes better. If there is no food we all suffer, dogs, me, my family."

6. Ivana is not asking for money, only kibbles to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"I have been doing this since I am 23, and I'm 34 now. We are a smaller number in the association now, but with the same problems and challenges as well.

My initial reasons were my anger towards dog fighting and the fact that people were scared to take away those dogs from that situation in this country, but soon I realised the main problem is to find a home for them. Macedonia has a limited number of homes and dogs with issues doesn't stand a chance here"

7. If this campaign succeeds, Ivana will not receive any money but 2400 kg of kibbles, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics platform in Northern Macedonia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Northern Macedonia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

8. Ivana can count on faithful supporters in her fight, but there are not enough of them to provide for the dogs.

"We have noticed a big drop in donations, and I understand how difficult this is for everyone. I will be facing this reality myself after my agreement expires with my company. So we are trying to make ends meet.

I am proud of what we have accomplished so far, very proud of all our good friends who have helped us out till now, I will never quit rescue and I know that every drop counts as a sea when we join to save a life. So I like being a drop in a sea of rescue, someone's life depends on it."

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

10. In North Macedonia, neither the state nor the population wants to help the abandoned dogs. A lot of animals are left to die outside, there is no care for them.

If you know of a foundation or NGO that could help Ivana, please invite them to contact us so that we can put them in touch.
