Animal Webaction visited the site 12 November 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Michèle will soon run out of kibble for the 750 dogs in her shelters. They will starve if no-one intervenes!

"We are strangled by the daily costs. Since the situation is dramatic in the region, we are solicited every day for new animals in distress. Donations, given the situation, which has been difficult for everyone for months, do not even cover half our costs.

Our shelters now house 750 dogs, we have to feed them all... I feel a lot of concern and worry about the lack of kibble. And a lot of exhaustion, to tell the truth. At this moment, there is enough kibble left to feed them for 5 days, then we will have to find a solution.

My main concern is that the dogs might starve, and if that happens they will start fighting too, we can't allow that to happen. We help abandoned dogs, we give them shelter, we feed them, we spay or neuter them. By giving them a shelter we keep them safe. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 40 of them have gone abroad for a wonderful future, it's well worth doing all this, we have to keep on taking care of them, but with no external help it's very complicated".

2. The pandemic has caused a surge in the number of stray dogs and their suffering: Michèle is overwhelmed with requests for new rescues, which she is unable to carry out due to lack of kibble.

###

"Covid has implied a lot of changes. The situation in the city is catastrophic, the region is flooded with dogs and we are approached every day. While the donations we receive have dropped, and this also hinders sending the dogs abroad for adoption, and placements.

Less than 3 months ago we took over 300 dogs out of the pound, where they were simply condemned. Despite the circumstances, we fought hard and managed to have many dogs adopted. But we've reached a point where we have to stop, we can't keep on taking dogs.

It's a dilemma that we have every day, several times a day, to either refuse to help new animals in distress, or to rescue them and put the dogs in the shelters in danger, because we can no longer provide for them".

3. Weakened and very thin, Pamela will not be able to survive a food shortage.

###

"So far, we have managed to ensure that they have enough to eat. But unfortunately we've recently had poor quality kibble, which has made the dogs lose weight and given them diarrhoea. For those who were already weakened, this is not without consequences.

Pamela has been separated from the others, like all the other dogs who are very thin, and has also received treatment to make sure she is free of parasites, but she now needs a solid and regular diet to get back on her feet."

4. Michèle achieves the impossible every day for the sake of these dogs, but resources are far too low to keep on buying kibbles.

###

"There has been a sharp drop in donations since the beginning of the pandemic, especially in the last two months. The problem is that dogs are being fed from donations. With 750 dogs, this is a huge expense, not to mention the fact that it is not only the food that ensures the shelters' survival.

There are constant changes to be made, equipment to be replaced, the staff has to be paid, water has to be bought, there are many expenses. Plus the veterinarians, we have just revaccinated the 750 dogs, we have had 180 of the 300 dogs saved from the pound spayed / neutered, it's a lot of expenses.

It's important for the project to continue because these dogs have been rescued and we are responsible for them. And it's difficult to bear."

5. Michèle is not asking for money, only kibbles to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"Dogs are my people. I am passionate, determined, for dogs I am capable of anything. Of course, you have to know how to sacrifice yourself, I have animals everywhere, I don't sleep much. There are so many dogs, I would like to take them all into my home. I suffer emotionally, it's hard to accept not being able to take them all.

My biggest fear is that we won't be able to feed them and take care of them as we have done so far. But in spite of the Covid, we manage to get a lot of them adopted, and that is my greatest hope: to be able to give them a better future".

6. If this campaign succeeds, Michèle will not receive any money but 5000 kg of kibbles, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Calls for donations launched on social medias are not enough, those to international foundations remain unanswered.

"People don't help more because they don't have money, many things are closed, restaurants, hotels, many people can't work anymore. Of course we launch appeals regularly, but it's far from enough.

We have also contacted other organisations for help, but we haven't received an answer for the moment, and we have to find a solution".

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies . It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many dogs remain starving on the street!
