1. In Serbia, Svetlana is almost out of kibble to feed the 111 dogs at her shelter. If no one takes action, they will starve!

%%%

"Lack of food is our biggest problem, especially now in the winter when dogs need to be fed stronger. Because of the pandemic, the help we receive is very short term, we live from week to week. When I buy food, I'm already thinking about how I'll manage to do the following week. It's a constant fight I'm fighting to get food supplies.

The small amounts of food I manage to buy are consumed very quickly as there are a lot of dogs at the shelter. At the moment, the dogs are eating the cheapest food on the market and there is only enough left for 2/3 days maximum... We are in desperate need of dog food! I have to find a way to feed them... I'd rather not eat than cut meals for them.

I'm scared for the survival and health of my dogs, that I all love equally. Getting this help would be invaluable to us, especially in the coming period."

2. Abandonments are more numerous than ever, but Svetlana's current lack of resources is preventing her from rescuing more dogs. They are dying in the streets.

###

"I have seen posts on social networks about endangered dogs, but I no longer have conditions for new dogs... I cannot accept any at the moment. I have to concentrate on feeding the dogs that are already here.

It is very difficult for me to be in such a situation. Of course, I would prefer to save all the dogs and give them the help they need. But I have to balance the desire to help as many dogs as possible and my current abilities.

I am also afraid for the dogs at the shelter that have health problems as well as those that are old. In any case, there must be no complete disappearance of food. When they are hungry, aggression occurs, they attack each other... We cannot let that happen."

3. Rina still bears the marks of a terrible past. Slowly recovering, she needs kibble to survive!

###

"Rina was rescued in November last year, she was in very bad shape when we found her. We don't know what happened to her, but she was very thin, malnourished, scared, with wounds all over her body, without parts of her skin...

We have faced it, we have managed to make many improvements, we are treating the diseases, but there are still difficulties. She definitely needs to eat a lot to keep on improving.

Rina proved to be a gentle, kind stable dog despite everything she went through. She will eventually need a home of love. She is the sweetest girl."

4. Deeply affected by the pandemic, indebted, Svetlana can no longer buy kibbles for the dogs!

###

"So many people have lost their jobs, people are currently fighting for their lives, their families. Companies are trying to survive. No one is focusing on dog shelters now, but to me, that is the only focus I have. I think that the pandemic really had a big impact on the situation we are facing now.

I have many debts and I really don't have the money to pay them back at the moment, because I am spending everything I have on food - that's my priority. I’m not sorry because I love dogs and it’s my desire to help them and take care of them, but it’s definitely not easy.

I know that other shelters in Serbia are facing the same problems as me. We are a few people who really want to help animals from the bottom of our hearts, but at the moment the situation is critical. One thing is for sure, I'm lucky that the local vet accepts to do our surgeries and be paid later. He helps as much as he can."

5. Svetlana isn't asking for money, only kibbles to keep her dogs from starving!

###

My love for animals and my desire to help them has always existed. I can't even imagine not taking care of dogs, because this is my life's calling. The situation is really unfavorable for dogs throughout the Balkans. Here dogs are treated as a pest. The number of stray dogs is only increasing, as well as the number of abandoned and injured animals.

When I see such dogs, I can't remain immune to it, that's why I came to this number in the shelter. I can't just leave a living creature in pain. I will always try to give these dogs the best life I can, a better life than the one they had before they met me. Of course, I always strive to get them adopted into a forever home of their own. That's the best possible outcome!

6. If this campaign succeeds, Svetlana will not receive any money, but 1800 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic centre directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. The streets of Serbia are full of abandoned and injured animals. Svetlana does her very best to rescue them in numbers, but without food, her actions are limited!

"I am quite sad and worried about what happens to dogs in this country. I do not cease to be surprised by the fact that there is a law against dog abuse, but somehow if the animals are seen as "vermin", this law can be bypassed and the practice of abuse becomes "normal".

Shooting dogs, running them over, hanging them, poisoning them, torturing them, organizing dog fights, ignoring abuse... There is no end to it. When I drive through different towns and villages I come across a lot of dogs and cats that have been hit by a car or have some other problem and I can't believe that people so rarely approach them and help.

These dogs have been through hell, and many of them will never get adopted, they will die with me. I owe it to them to provide them with a warm shelter, veterinary care and food. Any help we can get is immensely appreciated. We need you"
