Animal Webaction visited the site 01 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"Right now I take care of 42 dogs at my shelter and I feed an additional 8 dogs from around the village. My current and biggest issue is that I can't find enough food for them.
I have been unemployed since April because the pandemic forced my boss to cut some of his workers. Right now, many people are in the same situation as me financially and cannot give for animals, so of course it has a snow ball effect, my donations have dropped. I don’t know what options I have left.
My only available solution has been to reduce the dogs' portions to try and make it last as long as possibe. I'm afraid for them, especially now with the winter season when the dogs should eat way more than usual. I am afraid I will remain without food during the cold season, it's a dreadful feeling. I truly hope you can help me."
"People in my area have a bad habit of abandoning their dogs on the side of the road. There are so many cases, it’s like a phenomenon around here. The dogs are so many, they become packs from time to time. Since I've moved to this place, I've taken many dogs with me, saving them from the streets. I would love to do the same for the dogs that are currently living on the streets but I don’t have any possibilities right now.
I also want to save dogs that are kept in chains and harsh conditions at my neighbours', even at this time of year. All I can do for now is throw them food over the fence whenever I have the means to do so... There are 2 dogs in this situation but sadly I can’t do anything more due to my lack of resources. I feel powerless and overwhelmed by the situation.
I wish people could just imagine how much work and stress you need to go through when you try to save so many innocent lives. I wish the donors could imagine themselves in my place and see how hard it is and that I have pure intentions."
"Albisor was born deaf and lived next to a factory all his life until he was captured by the municipality dog catchers. They took him to the public shelter, where they repeatedly beat him. Other dogs were aggressive to him all the time. He became aggressive over there and unfortunately stayed like that...
He had a vascular incident in September when I took him to the vet to get treatment. He also has cataract in one eye. I have to make sure Albisor gets the best food in order for him to fully recover."
"I think that currently, everybody’s more focused on their personal needs rather than helping others. There are more and more people in need and less people who can afford to help or adopt an animal. I tried to promote the friendliest dogs for adoptions but didn’t have too much success with it. I've only managed to have 2 dogs adopted recently.
My only source of dry food comes from a partnership I have with an online kibble store, but it moves very slow and the quantities are small since they try to help multiple shelters.
I tried to reach out to other organisations but even they are overwhelmed by the situation and they couldn’t give me anything either. I am relying on others to help me but things are becoming more and more difficult for everyone. I need some help feeding my dogs."
"My passion started when Traian Basescu was the mayor of Bucharest and he started to euthanize the street dogs. My heart felt much grief when I was thinking about how those innocent animals that were going to be killed. I felt I had to do something about it!
I think this little shelter is my proudest accomplishment! Another thing would be that I managed to somehow push the authorities to take some action against the public shelters and try to bring them on a normal principle of treating the animals.
I still feel this is a big accomplishment, even right now I’m working with ASPA; on the 7th December I’m going for a visit to the public shelter in Giurgiu."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I hope the authorities do something noticeable and good about the abandoned dogs situation. I wish they would begin to sterilise them to loosen up the amount of dogs for us, the associations and individuals who try to make a change. This is my only hope, for the authorities to try to help us, not fight us back.
I really hope I will manage to convince other people to help me and my dogs dogs as well. My biggest fear is that everybody will become selfish and won’t help us anymore. Without any outside help, I definitely won't be able to keep going."
