Animal Webaction visited the site 06 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Greece, Kelly has no kibble left to feed the 65 dogs at her shelter. If no one intervenes, they will starve!

"I feel despair. I can’t hide it, for real. I feel hopeless, I see that the situation is  getting worse and not better, and to be honest we kind of feel psychologically weak. Right now, we have no food stock left at all, and we can't buy any more due to lack of money. Not for some other reason.

They have plenty of food in the store, we just can’t buy it. Not being able to provide the basic food to the dogs is the worst thing, the worst thing ever. The worst! The vast majority of dogs we have at the shelter came here because they didn't stand a chance to survive on their own in the outside world.

We took them in because they were sick or injured or were small puppies that had to be bottle-fed. If we can't secure a new stock of food, the consequences will be disastrous. The next option is that we will have to close the shelter down... the dogs can’t stay here without food. I can’t let them eat each other..."

2. With no food stock left, Kelly has had to stop rescuing new dogs. They are dying on the streets!

###

"Greece is still under lockdown, and we keep on finding many abandoned dogs in the areas around. Everyday there's more. And not only puppies, but adult dogs too. Dogs in bad condition who look miserable. There are tons! Too many...

You can tell by their behavior that they haven't always lived as strays, that they had a home of their own before. For example we've taken a griffon who was abandoned in the near fields some days ago, and he totally fits that description.

Unfortunately, due to lack of food, space and resources, we have now had to put a stop to rescuing more dogs. We currently have 65 dogs and if we take any more, we would jeopardize the health of the dogs already under our care..."

3. At only 3 months old, Louise's leg was cut off, making her yet another victim of human abuse. Weak and still growing, she needs kibble to recover!

###

"Louise is a female little puppy about 3 months old. We found her 1 month ago, outside  the town of Kozani with her little sister, someone cut off their front legs...

Her  sister got adopted but Louise needs more treatment because the links in her right leg are still weak. She will  probably need another surgery to be able to walk properly. If the lack of food persists, it will definitely affect her already fragile health and her growth."

4. The drop in donations has had a huge strain on Kelly's budget. Indebted, she can no longer buy kibble for the dogs!

###

"With the pandemic and the lockdown, people don't donate as much. It’s not because they don’t want to donate, it’s because they don’t have much to donate. Because they've lost their job or because the uncertainty of the future simply doesn't place them in a position where they're able to help.

If we get out of this situation, I think people will start to donate again... At least that's my hope. Because at the moment one of our biggest struggle is to find money to be able to pay our debts, to be able to buy food and medicines. We have 5.000 euros of debt in the vet and we have a 300-400 euro debt to the pet store.

My husband and I finance our actions with the donations we receive, and with our own salaries. Unfortunately it's not enough to make ends meet. That's why we need your help desperately."

5. Kelly isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep her dogs from starving!

###

"My husband and I think about our dogs all the time... We constantly ask ourselves things like "how are the dogs?", "have we closed the gates correctly?", "will there be enough food for them?"... If one dog is sick and dies, we mourn for days. To tell you the truth, it's like we'd have lost a family member!

All our focus and energy are on them. If there is a sick dog in an area, we think “when can we go to visit them”, “we must go to  the vet”... All our thoughts are on them, our life is connected to them. To be honest, if my husband didn’t have the same amount of  love for animals as I do, we wouldn't be together now. Only 2 true animal lovers can accept this type of life.

At the end of the day, our proudest accomplishment is when we are able to send our dogs for adoption. Last year, we gave 25+ dogs for adoption. That one dog is coming to the shelter gets adopted is the best thing for us. Good adoptions, to good families."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Kelly won't receive any money but 2160 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction logistics platform in Greece.

Animal Webaction has a logistic centre in Greece, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Kelly is trying her hardest to expand her community and find more support, with little impact. She needs help!

"The main problem we have is to buy food for the dogs. Some other problems that I can think of are the expenses for medicines and different treatments. We are always finding more and more abandoned dogs on the streets, but our budget doesn't allow us to save more dogs right now unfortunately.

We had contact with other organisations before, they told us that at some point in the future they may be  able to help us, but we didn’t receive any other answer besides that, and it never happened.

We are also trying to expand our community, to find more support. A Dutch volunteer made a documentary about our actions as rescuers. It was displayed in some countries and since then we have been approached by some people. Right now the impact cannot be felt too much, but we hope it will contribute to rally more people to our cause.

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.
