Animal Webaction visited the site 10 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Karim has almost no kibble left to feed the dozens of street dogs. They will starve if nobody intervenes!

"The situation of the street dogs is catastrophic, worse than it was before. Not only do they no longer have food, since restaurants can not work as they used to, but they are also more numerous, and more frequently chased away, as they are regarded as undesirable.

As a result, there has been an increase in interventions to help them, and in the budget to feed them, we have been forced to double our budget in recent months. We feed 30 of them on a regular basis, plus all those who are constantly on the move, many of them are always on the move given the circumstances.

Every day I receive between 10 and 20 requests for interventions, which I am now forced to refuse, I can't cope with it anymore. If we cannot feed them anymore, they will search even more in people's garbage and near the houses to find something to eat, people will ask the authorities to shoot them even more, so they will die one way or another."

2. Only three months old, Otis lives on the streets with his brothers and sisters. He won't be able to find food on his own if Karim can't feed him anymore.

###

"We think he was born in the neighbourhood, he must be about 3 months old. He stays near a hospital, with other puppies from the same litter obviously, and other stray dogs.

We feed him regularly, as well as the other dogs on site, and also give him medical care whenever necessary. He and his siblings are still very young, they need help to be able to feed themselves, stay safe and healthy on the street".

3. The association's shelter is home to 70 dogs, which are also threatened by the lack of kibble. Karim is afraid he will have to put them back on the street if no solution can be found.

%%%

"Our food stocks are almost empty, we have about 80kg left, that's enough for 3 days. We do what we can, and the dogs eat what they can eat...

I'm really afraid that I won't be able to feed them anymore, sincerely, I'm counting on this campaign. For me, as it is, this campaign is essential to keep going, otherwise I'll have to release them, I can't keep them locked up without anything to eat, it's not possible...

I feel despair, and I keep asking myself this question: was I right to do all this? Because if in the end I can't feed them anymore, everything I've done for the last 6 years is basically useless. I thought that what was missing was good will, but if people are not there to help us, I will be forced to give up".

4. Blacko was rescued in extremis, while he was starving in the street. Still extremely thin and weakened by malnutrition, he has a vital need for kibbles.

###

"Blacko is a young dog, 18 months old, who has been at the shelter for about a month. He was found in a critical condition, totally famished, he couldn't even stand up. He was on the verge of starvation.

He is also infected with ringworm, for which he is undergoing treatment. He is afraid of other dogs, but very affectionate with humans. In spite of our efforts, he is still very weak, he absolutely needs kibbles to get back on his feet and to recover."

5. Donations are rare and adoptions complex with the pandemic, the association is over-indebted and can no longer buy kibbles.

###

"Everything is harder since the pandemic. We are seeing a drop in donations, we have an average of just under €200 in donations per month, which is not enough to be able to take care of everything. We also have difficulties to adopt dogs who have all their papers and are ready to go abroad, about ten of them, but because of health restrictions there is no one to pick them up, so they remain in our care.

We cover about 10% of our costs through pensions, but most of it is now covered by our own money and debts. We have a lot of debts, with suppliers, rent etc... We have already asked for many payment terms, and borrowed money. We are supposed to start paying off the debts next month, the situation is critical, we simply can't afford it anymore".

6. Karim is not asking for money, only kibbles to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"We've been in Marrakech since 2015, we started at the beginning with a few animals, because there was a need for serious associations that intervene really and concretely. We started with small interventions, 5 animals, after 10 etc... After 6 years we are at 166 animals (dogs, cats and horses), and 709 sterilisations in 2020 only, it is important to continue.

The public authorities simply do nothing. The money they spend paying hunters to kill these animals, they could very well give it to us and control our activity, we could then take care of sterilizing them and releasing them, it would cost less to the municipality. And it would allow us to protect the territory, especially against rabies.

This situation is unacceptable to me for a Muslim country, when we are supposed to have more empathy towards these animals. "

7. If this campaign succeeds, Karim will not receive any money but 3500 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

8. Search for partners or unsold items, contact with international foundations... Karim is trying by all means to get his head out of the water, but he still needs our help.

"We make fundraising on Paypal, one every month, in order to give visibility to people on what we do. We are also trying to create a network where people give 1 euro per month, if more people do so our association will be able to finance itself, but for the moment we are only 58 people.

We are also looking for partners, I am in the process of working with a large supermarket to collect leftover meat, if we have this at least once a week it will help us a lot. And if the hotel business takes over, maybe we'll have a sponsor who will give us 1% of the profits from each sale made.

We contacted organisations like the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, without any answer, we contacted Beta Lebanon in Lebanon, we are still waiting to see if they can do something for us".

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

10. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies . It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many dogs remain starving on the street!

If you know of a foundation or NGO that could help Karim, please invite them to contact us so that we can put them in touch.
