Animal Webaction visited the site 20 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Northern Macedonia, Ivana will soon run out of kibble to feed the many dogs abandoned in the streets and public dumps: they will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"There are too many dogs, especially at the dump, as people simply leave their dogs there, and we don't have the means to spay everyone. There are about 70 at the first dump, 30 at the second, and another 30 on the streets that we regularly feed. None of them have big chances to survive on their own, especially puppies, and especially with this season.

We meet many ill dogs and puppies on the street and the landfill, but for now we don't have space and medical treatment for everyone, so we help them only with food, which will be over soon. Restaurants do not help anymore due to the latest restrictions, and cold winter is working against us, we try to bring warm water to the dogs but it freezes in a couple of hours... This winter I'm really afraid dogs will be out of food and water.

I feel desperate, as the situation here makes me decide which dog is going to survive, and which is not, whose life is more important today. Though there should not be such question."

2. At Ivana's shelter, 45 dogs are also threatened by the lack of kibble. Many are ill or in recovery, they will not survive a shortage!

%%%

"We have 45 dogs at the shelter right now, some of them are barely recovering from various diseases, I can't imagine how we are going to survive the winter if there is no food. Right now we have about 150 kg left, which is enough for the next 5-6 days.

Sick dogs are going to get sicker, no matter how hard we try to help them beat the disease. We invested so much in medical treatment for some dogs, and if they don't have enough food, all their diseases will come back. That's a pity; we are trying so hard to cure dogs, providing them medical therapy so they can recover; but without food it is all useless.

I don't want ill dogs get worse, I don't want anyone to die, I can't see them with the question in their eyes: "Are we having food today?" This is so painful for all of us, when we know we cannot provide dogs’ basic stuff here such as food..."

3. Plagued by multiple parasitic diseases, Jack was saved from a certain death on the street. Still very weakened, he will not be able to overcome malnutrition.

###

"Jack is about 3 or 4 years old. We found him in this desperate state, he is suffering from multiple parasitic diseases : leishmaniasis, heartworm and anaplasmosis. Rescuing him clearly meant the difference between life and death for him.

He is currently taking several treatments to support his organs and blodd to prepare him for the therapy for leishmaniasis, which is pretty toxic. His suffering is still active for now, and he desperately needs good food to be able to keep up with his illness and treatments."

4. Veterinary fees are constantly piling up, while donations are at their lowest. Ivana has to constantly juggle with priorities, she no longer sees any means of buying more kibble.

###

"The main issue is lack of food - the association cannot afford healthcare for dogs and food at the same time, we've had too many ill dogs recently and are already indebted with the vet. We buy dog food if we have money of course, but we are running out of it right now.

We suffer from a big drop in donations, many people got infected with covid, holidays are coming, and bills are more expensive... We understand that people have their own lives and issues right now. The situation seems hopeless, though I still believe we can manage better in future.

I gave birth with cesarean section 10 days ago and I am here - helping to rescue dogs, while my mother takes care of the baby. I think this fact says enough about my devotion to animals, I am determined, but I need people to help me go through this."

5. Ivana is not asking for money, only kibbles to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"Everything happened spontaneously: there was a protest few years ago dedicated to dogs. That's how the association was registered: we were a group of activists, we wanted to support those dogs that were abandoned by human, make them healthier and socialized.

Around 20 dogs got adopted over the last 4 months, despite the pandemic situation, and we are really happy about it. That's why association like ours need to exist; we increase animals’ chances to survive.

The situation could be better if we didn't have so many ill dogs here, but for now that seems impossible, and so we don't have nothing more to invest in food. We cannot save everyone, the amount of strays is insane, that's why we ask for help from people."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Ivana will not receive any money but 3000 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Northern Macedonia.

Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in North Macedonia, still active despite the pandemic, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Calls for donations, contact with international organisations, search for local partners... Ivana has already tried everything, she needs our help to get kibbles.

"We tried to contact few organizations, but no one helped. We don't get any financial help here, only individuals from the UK support us from time to time; also they help us with adoptions. The only thing we managed to get, is to get some meat leftovers from the local butcher shop from time to time, but it is neither regular nor enough.

I hope that, eventually, we will fit all the dogs the association takes care of here, in one spot - this is my goal, I want everyone to be under control, fed and getting all the medical treatment needed."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Northern Macedonia, neither the state nor the population wants to help the abandoned dogs. A lot of animals are left to die outside, there is no care for them.

If you know of a foundation or NGO that could help Ivana, please invite them to contact us so that we can put them in touch.

If you represent an animal protection foundation or NGO, please help Ivana's dogs, contact us and we will put you in touch!
