Animal Webaction visited the site 22 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Romania, Ana Maria will soon run out of kibble to feed the 70 dogs at her shelter. We cannot let them starve!

"With 70 dogs at the shelter, we're now at full capacity and our daily food consumption has increased by a lot. Right now we only have food until the 10th of January and I’m not sure how much more food we will be able to buy next month.

We’re literally at the limit with our sponsorships and expenses, and I used our last money to buy this batch of food. We've never been in a situation that could generate consequences before – until now...

It’s impossible to maintain a dog shelter without dog food, especially now that's it's winter, and the dogs need to eat a lot more..."

2. To save them from euthanasia, Ana Maria recently collected 30 dogs from the pound. Without a new supply of food, she won't be able to save any more!

###

"The situation is pretty bad outside of Bucharest, people abandon dogs continuously. There are always dogs in distress, many dogs hit by cars for example. For us this means we always have more requests to take in new dogs.

Unfortunately, it's impossible for us to accept new dogs at the moment, due to lack of space, food and resources. We've recently rescued 30 dogs from the public shelter, where they were supposed to be euthanized...

It’s important for people to support us because we save quite a lot of animals and if we find more people interested in helping us, we could definitely save even more."

3. Rescued a few days ago and severely underweight, Lilly needs kibble to get through Romania's harsh winter season.

###

"Lilly arrived at the shelter a couple of days ago, she's part of the big rescue we just carried out. They were going to euthanize her, like all the other dogs who've had the bad luck to end up there.

Lilly is still getting used to her new environement. She's a sweet dog but very underweight. With winter here and the low temperatures, she definitely needs to get some strength back. Only a good nutrition like kibbles will give her that."

4. The drop in donations has deeply impacted Ana Maria's actions. Indebted, she can no longer buy kibbles for the dogs!

###

"Unfortunately, we have less donations than before and I’m very afraid to lose even more, as we entirely depend on them. For example, in December, more people cancelled their donations because of the pandemic and the difficult financial situations all around.

Our vet bills are huge as we also had many sick dogs under treatment, surgeries etc. I have around 1.000€ of debt at one vet clinic and over 2-3.000€ at another one... We definitely need a few more monthly donations if we want to be able to save more dogs and maintain the shelter.

In Romania, generally speaking, there aren’t that many people truly interested in animal welfare and those who are, already have their animals to take care of, so they don’t have any spare time or money to help other associations like mine. There are only a few very big associations that people know about; the smaller ones have to manage as best as they can by themselves."

5. Ana Maria isn't asking for money, only kibble for the 70 dogs at the shelter.

###

"I’ve been actively involved in helping dogs ever since I was 13, when a new law to euthanize stray dogs was implemented here in Romania. When I heard about it, I got afraid and I started taking all the stray dogs from my street into my yard. My mother joined me and took many dogs as well. We ended up with a house and a yard full of dogs!

I started building my own shelter at 15 and when I turned 18, I officially created the association, SOS dogs Romania.  The fact that I have managed to save so many dogs throughout the years makes me really proud. In fact, I'm currently studying to be a vet, to continue on this path in the future.

It makes me very happy when I see dogs getting adopted and living a loving life and when I see their owners still caring about our association by writing, sending pictures, donating money or helping in different ways.."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Ana Maria will not receive any money but 3600 kg of kibbles, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics platform in Romania.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Ana Maria does everything she can to find sponsors and kibbles for the dogs, but it's not enough!

"There is a visible drop in donations lately because of the pandemic situation. People have different financial priorities right now, some people even withdrew their donations.

Our sponsors are very important and if we lose more of them, and we get into a situation with no food left at all, we won’t be able to take care of the dogs anymore...We need help."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Romania, it is difficult to find funds for kibbles, there are no aid, no grants, no foundation... Many abandoned dogs die alone in the streets, in complete indifference...

If you know of a foundation or NGO that could help Ana Maria please invite them to contact us so that we can put them in touch.

If you represent an animal protection foundation or NGO, please help Ana Maria’s dogs, contact us and we will put you in touch!
