Animal Webaction visited the site 15 January 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Egypt, Heidi is running out of kibble to feed the 120 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if no one helps them!

"Right now is a really hard time. Unfortunately donations have dried up over the past few months due to the pandemic, and the situation has worsened with the announcement of the new wave of this virus.

We are facing a lot of financial difficulties, and it is also difficult to find homes for these dogs, and to send them abroad, thus their number increases and our burden as well. We cannot survive like that, soon I will have nothing to feed our animals.

I cannot sleep as I spend too much time thinking about the dangers of the coming period, this affects me psychologically, and physically. I fear I won't be able to feed them anymore, that I won't be able to help them get over this ordeal as I've done until now."

2. The amount of abandoned dogs has been steadily increasing, but Heidi can no longer help them due to lack of food.

###

"There has been an increase in the number of homeless dogs, due to the inability of the owners to care for them. I cannot help them as I did, for fear of not providing them with proper care due to the current situation.

I feel sad, and hurt, because I cannot see a dog being hurt and not help him. But I am unable to save abandoned dogs at this very moment. I am already hoping we can keep our animals safe and healthy, I do not know if it will get worse."

3. Oscar has been abandoned at the shelter's door, skeletal and eaten away by scabies. Despite the difficulties, Heidi is fighting for him, but he won't recover without kibble.

###

"Oscar has been at the shelter for about 10 days. I found him in front of the shelter door, in that terrible condition. He suffers from a severe case of scabies, and his body is very weak.

He is currently undergoing treatment, but of course the lack of food will hit him hard, he is already very thin and frail."

4. Heidi's debts increase as donations decrease, she can no longer buy more kibble nor keep on taking it on credit.

###

"Donations have been decreasing gradually, as the virus worsened and curfews were enforced. I find it so hard to cover the food expenses, I've started to build debt as there was no other choice. I owe more than 1000€ already to the meat seller, and nearly 700€ to the vet.

I have to pay the food suppliers in order to be able to get food again, and I don't have the funds for that. The amount of dry food the dogs get has already been reduced for a while, I've been getting bread that i mix with it and with some chicken to reduce the costs. But I don't have the resources or even sufficient financial support to even keep doing this, so I am afraid I will not be able to feed them if things do not improve. I don't even dare to think about it."

5. Heidi is not asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"I started the shelter 4 years ago. It all started with a litter of puppies who were born in the garage of my building at the time. Their mother was poisoned and died, so I took them in and had them adopted, and then the idea came to rent a place for rescued animals.

The point is for the shelter to provide the necessary resources for their care, such as food and treatment, inb order to save them from the harm caused by people who are not interested in animals, and offer them a better life."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Heidi will not receive any money but 2800 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Egypt.

Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Egypt that allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Heidi has contacted multiple organisations, and made several calls for help, but the situation is not improving, she needs our help to get kibble.

"I did contact several international organisations, but unfortunately it didn't bring me any help. I have been posting lots of dogs and cats over the last few days, to ask for sponsorship, but unfortunately it didn't work well. So I posted again, asking for 1£ for a meal, but the result was the same. That worries me a lot.

It is a hard time for everyone, but we need to remember these animals, they need to stay safe and to be able to eat, no matter what. I hope this virus will finally disappear, so we can go back to normal again."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

9. In Egypt, stray dogs number in millions, and culling is regularly carried out. Volunteers like Heidi are their only hope.
