We cannot leave these 118 dogs starve!

Disaster! In Bosnia, Velimir's 118 dogs have almost no kibble left! They will starve if no one helps.

1. In Bosnia, Velimir will soon run out of kibble to feed the 118 dogs at her shelter. They will starve if no one helps them!

doggrid

"We currently have 118 dogs and we get calls everyday to pick up new ones. People also drop dogs at the shelter’s entrance or in the woods nearby, on the sly, although we are located 20 km away from the nearest city.

My biggest problem is how to provide food for dogs. Right now we only have 5 bags of kibbles left, which is far from enough to feed everybody, and I have no hope of finding more! We have an agreement with the local bakery, they sell us leftovers. Unfortunately, it is not enough to satiate fully the dogs' appetites and the dogs also risk developing deficiencies with this type of food. Kibbles are vital, especially in winter time when dogs need richer food to survive.

Finding food is an everyday struggle, it puts me under a lot of stress. The dogs I rescue depend on me entirely, I can’t just leave them to their fate! They need to eat, or the consequences will be catastrophic."

2. The dogs are hungry and fights have already erupted at the shelter. Without a new stock of kibble, the situation will degenerate!

dogs

"There are lots of abandoned dogs on the streets of Srebrenica and we have rescued many, many of them despite our meager resources. However, we no longer keep up with the growing food needs. Dogs are getting aggressive in the morning before breakfast and we have had fights already.

Since I don't have enough kibble supply to bring peace to the dogs, I have to keep  the most vulnerable ones in separate spaces so they do not get bullied and attacked when I distribute food. I have also had to stop bringing in new stray dogs as I can’t risk more fights over food.

And yet, I can't leave dogs who need help to die. Abandoned dogs that I cannot rescue will get picked up by the dogcatchers and be killed, be attacked by wolves or starve to death. I feel desperate and I drown in stress as I see no way out."

3. Rescued from an abusive owner, Frodo was taken to the shelter after weeks of intensive care. Still very feable, she won't survive without kibbles!

Frodo###

"Frodo was starved and neglected by her owner. When I found her, she had few hairs left, evident injuries at her rear legs, and was clearly on the verge of dying.

She had to spend a long time at the veterinary clinic under intensive care. She is now slowly recovering at the shelter, and won’t be able to stand food deprivation again.

It is clear she would not have survived without our help, and she will be the first to benefit from a new stock of kibbles. It will help her put past her sad, cruel history, regain strength and hopefully be adopted by a loving family."

4. Velimir receives very few donations and the public authorities prefer to exterminate the dogs. Veterinary fees are accumulating, all his resources are committed, and he no longer has enough to buy kibbles.

Velimir###

“I support the shelter with my personal funds. We have no permanent donors and help for sterilisation has dried up for more than a year. The few off-and-on donations we receive from abroad are always very short-lived.

The Municipality isn't helping either:  they prefer to spend their budget on a “remove and kill” policy, rather than helping no-kill shelters like ours.

I am putting all of my money into veterinary care, dog life improvement and food, but  I no longer know how to pay all the expenses and I just don’t have the funds to buy kibbles anymore.”

5. Velimir isn't asking for money, only kibble to feed his dogs!

dogs2###

“Six years ago, I rescued two dogs from the Drina River. Then I started feeding other dogs from the street, opened a shelter and eventually went legal as I wanted to make a real difference for abandoned dogs.

I am really proud that we went this far. Although we had to change location three times because neighbours chased us away and even shot at us once, we eventually found a safe place and directly influenced the reduction in the number of killed dogs in Srebrenica. Many of our dogs also found a home, love and families to care for them.

This is my life goal, but this is a not a job one can do all alone. It is not just about money, it's also about moral and logistical support. We need kibbles and material or we won’t be able to keep the shelter and the dogs alive!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Velimir will not receive any money but 2160 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Bosnia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Velimir's multiple requests for help were unsuccessful.  This campaign is their last hope!

“We have reached out to 300 organizations, and no one could afford to help, especially with the covid-19 outbreak.

I am also aware that we would need to invest more time in social networks, but our team is not big and is already overwhelmed with daily duties.

Without serious support and recognition of our work, it will be very difficult to overcome the challenges. I would be overjoyed if we could secure a few people who would make a monthly donation. And above all, it would be a relief to have a big stock of kibbles for once.”

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.
