Animal Webaction visited the site 03 March 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Karim has almost no kibble left to feed the street cats, they will starve if no one helps!

%%%

"At the moment, the difficulties we face in distributing food to street cats are at their peak. With the pandemic, businesses are closed, people are facing great hardship and donations have dropped dramatically... I can't buy more kibble because I simply don't have the funds anymore.

We can only make very small distributions, because we only have 60 kilos of kibble left to feed both the street cats and our own cats at the shelter... This is only a few days' supply, while several hundred street cats depend on us.

I say to myself: if we are not there, who will feed them? What will happen to these animals? Just thinking about it makes me anxious, because without our help they will starve to death."

2. The closure of restaurants due to COVID condemns cats to starvation.

###

"Street cats need kibble even more because most restaurants remain closed and cats can't find anything to eat. There is no public organisation that can intervene, neither for food nor for abuse, and sometimes we even find dead cats that have been killed.

We try to help them as much as we can and as long as the vet agrees to delayed payments, but as there are no subsidies and we don't have enough kibble to take care of more cats, we have had to reduce our action by 40%!

Frankly, we would like to not exist and that the animals do not suffer, that would be ideal, but it is not the case, we are forced to exist to help these abandoned cats the best we can."

3. Max had a lacerated neck and would have died on the street should Karim have failed to rescue him on the day we visited. He will need kibble to recover.

###

"Max is a street cat  that we rescued today. He was found by a lady, he had a serious abscess on his neck. She tried to treat him but he was very aggressive, he attacked her several times.

We rushed him to the vet and we will have to take him in at the shelter. This is necessary because he is kind of wild and the lady will not be able to keep him. On the street he would have died, and he will need plenty of quality food to  recover."

4. The 110 cats in Karim's shelter are also threatened by the lack of kibble, they are getting hungry already!

%%%

"The association also houses 110 cats. Several of them are still thin and need to gain weight to recover strength, unfortunately they don't eat enough, that's for sure...

Indeed, we have been forced to reduce rations and we can't give them anything else, because cats do not tolerate poor quality food, it causes them catastrophic diarrhoea.

And if we cannot find kibbles very soon, we will have to release all those who are not in extreme distress... I won't be able to keep the shelter anymore and I will be forced to close it; many cats will die and that will destroy me."

5. Tania was hit by a car and needs kibble to survive the heavy amputation that awaits her.

###

"Tania is a 2-year-old female who has been in the shelter for 2 weeks. She was hit by a vehicle and one of her back legs is badly hurt. Amputation is inevitable.

She needs kibble now to regain her strength and be strong enough to stand surgery. And she will need it afterwards to recover."

6. Karim has no way of acquiring a new supply of kibble that would save his cats from need.

###

"It is harder because the crisis is still there, there is less hope. Marrakech lives on tourism and with the border closure, the situation is not getting any better and we can't secure any partnerships... We were supposed to do one with a guest house, but the whole thing has been blocked because of the pandemic  we will have to wait until next year at best.

Donations are also very insufficient and my only solution is credit. We are in debt to the kibble supplier and to the vet, which means we run the risk of them not being able to keep up and having to cut off food and care. We already house the cats in convalescence at home rather than in hospital to save costs.

If anything goes wrong, we won't be able to hold on, we won't have the means to continue... We are lost, we have no visibility, we can't plan ahead, we live from day to day. To tell the truth, I don't even know if we can continue for much longer."

7. Karim isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep his cats from starving!

###

"We have procedures that are very simple, anyone can contact us on Facebook, explain the situation, send us photos and a phone number, and we usually respond within 48 hours.

We also try to find solutions or people who can help us. We act, we are reactive, we answer people, we intervene as soon as we can. Our action is essential, it should even spread. I am pretty sure that we encourage people who see us to reflect on animal welfare. Even if there is no immediate effect, they may become more involved later on to improve animal rights."

8.  If this campaign succeeds, Karim will not receive any money but 1,800 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.

9. Karim's pleas for help have failed so far. This kibble collection campaign is his last hope.

"We have a geographical problem: from Morocco, appeals for donations are often forbidden. Our only option is PayPal, we publish a call for help every month... but in February we only raised 30 euros.

We don't get any money from the government and we have no sponsors. I have tried to contact international foundations, but so far without success.

It is important to continue because there are still many needs, there are many cats that are neither sterilised nor vaccinated, and especially many cats to feed."

10. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

10. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies . It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many cats remain starving in the street!
