Lila is a 20-year-old mare suffering from Harper's disease. She ingested a toxic plant, which has since caused her neurological and musculoskeletal problems: she unwillingly hits herself in the stomach with her hind legs when she walks (this phenomenon is called "involuntary hyperflexion of the hind legs").
To heal, she is undergoing a draining cure. It could take a year or two, but in the end she should be able to walk normally again...
Nervously exhausted by her repeated involuntary movements, Lila will need nutrient-rich food. Some pellets every day would help her regain her strength while waiting for the draining treatment to take effect.
At the beginning of this year, we welcomed many new horses. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, part of our stock was destroyed...
To replace the lost food, we will have to find funds... which has become particularly difficult since the pandemic!
