We cannot leave these 120 dogs starve!

Disaster! In Bosnia, Velimir's 120 dogs have almost no kibble left! They will starve if no one helps.

1. In Bosnia, Velimir is running out of food to feed the 120 dogs in his shelter. They will starve to death if nobody helps them!

%%%

"I have 120 dogs in the shelter, a number constantly on the rise. We try to help each abandoned dog, as much as we can, and although it is really difficult to help everyone, we give our best.

The biggest issue is providing food, that is our highest priority. We used to finance it mostly through donations, until the pandemic affected the whole world and us, and we lost almost all support. At the moment, I just have 20 kg left, which is not even enough food for one day.

I have to find a solution, because when food runs out for good, dogs will become hungry and aggressive, and will attack each other. And if I don’t have any food to provide, I will eventually have to let them go… it would be a disaster and I would not be able to stand it."

2. With no solution to find kibbles, Velimir can no longer help dogs in distress!

"There are still a large number of dogs on the streets. Besides, a lot of abandoned dogs are thrown out by their owners unsterilized, and give birth to more and more puppies... Every day I get calls from people asking me to help dogs they have found in the area...

Unfortunately, us struggling to buy food means all these stray dogs will be denied kibble, but also vet care as trying to get food takes most of our energy and we cannot focus on anything else. Left on their own, dogs on the street will attack other domestic animals, perhaps even people, and they will get sick...

It makes me feel horrible and helpless. I would like to rescue them all in my shelter, but that is impossible because I do not currently have the conditions or food for that."

3. Abandoned as a baby, Popi needs kibble to overcome a parasitic disease that won't go away.

###

"Popi is 11 months old, we found him when he was just a tiny puppy. At the time, he was malnourished and so invaded by parasites that he had almost no hair left.

It took him a long time to get a bit better, he has not totally recovered yet and he is fearful of humans. He must be provided with kibbles that will help strenghten his immune system and build some more confidence towards us."

4. Insufficient donations, adoptions at a standstill, crushing debts… Velimir is overwhelmed by the costs and can no longer buy kibble.

###

"Caring for food simply is the primary and biggest problems, as donations have shrinked due to the pandemic — last month they helped cover 6 days of the shelter expenses only.

In addition to being deprived of concrete support for food and shelter costs, we can no longer rely on dog adoptions as borders are closed. Our shelter never empties and expenses stay high, I can't even afford to have running water installed.

I constantly borrow because there aren’t a lot of options, but I have to pay back several thousands of euros. I wish we could have kibble for a few months, it would mean one less worry and a bit more time to spend in lobbying and meetings to secure long-term support."

5. Velimir isn't asking for money, only kibble to feed his dogs!

###

"Since starting the shelter, we have been fighting for existence. It's not easy to do. We are the only “no kill” shelter in the region that cares for abandoned dogs, we try to offer them a safe place, away for beatings, shootings or killings...

I believe that we are changing people's mindset about dogs, especially abandoned ones. People are starting to see that they are not pests and that they cannot treat them badly, and having contributed to this change of mind  makes me very proud.

My greatest joy is when I save a dog and manage to find him the most welcoming home. When the people who adopted them call us and send us photos and a video of how happy the dog is, there is no greater satisfaction and motivation to me."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Velimir will not receive any money but 2300 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Bosnia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Velimir has already reached out to hundreds of organizations, unfortunately without success... This campaign is his last hope to get kibbles!

"Our online calls for help hardly work. I can't blame anyone: our 2 volunteers give their maximum, publish posts, contact people but there is not much success, we turned to more than 300 addresses for cooperation and assistance but no one could help us.

And yet we have contributed to fewer and fewer abandoned, hungry and sick dogs, that is visible in the field and we don't want to give up. But now we need more help… people helping in our food campaign will give us the opportunity to carry on the good work. Dogs in Srebrenica have no alternative than us."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.
