Animal Webaction visited the site 06 May 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Romania, Maria and Ferenc are running out of kibble to feed the 289 dogs in their shelter. They will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"The situation right now for the dogs in our shelter is not very good. We have 289 dogs in our care, the food is rationed, and very soon we will run out of it. Several dogs are having health issues, some of them are severe cases that were brought to us lately, and who are still in recovery.

We’ve never had such a bad year donations wise, we are struggling more than we thought we could. We have approximately 30kg of food left at this stage, and we are running out of solutions, we seriously risk to not be able to feed the dogs if this campaign doesn’t succeed. We would not be asking for help if the situation didn't require it.

We are feeling helpless, desperation is the word that best describes our feelings really, it keeps us up at night. We don't want the dogs to starve, we care so much for them. Our only purpose is to give them the life and safety they deserve."

2. Without kibble, Maria and Ferenc will not be able to help any more dogs in distress, although their shelter is their only hope.

###

"The situation right now in Salonta for abandoned dogs is dire. We find so many abadoned/ injured ones that we're afraid to think what might be if our rescue didn't exist anymore. A lot of times we are their best option for survival and a chance at a nearly normal life. Whenever someone finds a dog in the area, they call us.

Authorities are opening state shelters all over the region, which means that if our shelter is full or cannot take in dogs anymore, new ones will be brought to the state shelter instead. In these places, they don't care for them for the rest of their lives, they keep them a while, and eventually have to start euthanizing the dogs if the shelter is full, to make room for other animals, that is how it works.

It just breaks our heart to see that so many people don’t see the beauty in these animals’ souls and treat them the way they do. We worry a lot and wish from the bottom of our hearts to give these animals the love and care that they deserve."

3. Left to die after being run over by a car, Pascal suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries. He has just undergone surgery and will not be able to survive without kibble.

###

"Pascal was reported to us after having been hit by a car, he was found on the side of the road, bleeding. We went to get him, he had multiple spine fractures, his jaw was broken as well, and he also suffered from internal bleeding, as his liver was badly hit.

He pulled through, has a surgery already to fix his jaw so he can eat again normally, and might have another one to fix his spine. He might never walk again, but giving him the second surgery would help him move around better on his front legs and prevent further pain.

Pascal finally joined the shelter after being released from his surgery two weeks ago. After everything he went through, he need to be able to eat as much as he needs so he can recover, and not suffer any further."

4. Heavily affected by a long-term drop in donations, Maria and Ferenc can no longer buy kibble.

%%%

"We cannot buy anymore food at this point because we are in a bad financial situation. Donations are very low, and unfortunatelly, we don’t predict any improvements for the upcoming months. It will take a while until we recover from this pandemic, for all of us. Abandoned animals are paying a very high price for this and it is just unfair. Unfair when they suffer because of human actions that are not related to them at all.

We have a big debt at the vet clinic, as most of the dogs we rescue have severe health issues, and/or broken bones. This implied a lot of time and financial stress on the association. We also have a debt for construction materials that we used for the kennels : fences, gravel, and such. We have expenses with food and treatment for the sick ones, and we cannot ignore neither one of these two.

Providing food might be our biggest problem, but is one of the dogs's basic needs. We need this campaign to succed so we can feed the dogs. Your campaigns are extremely helpful for us."

5. Maria and Ferenc are not asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"We spend all our free time at the shelter. We sacrificed everything, from personal lives to our home and many of our relationships. We have so many dogs and we constantly have to do something : clean, fix, repair, take care of the sick ones, vet visits, show them affection.  We even wake up during the night to make sure the ones in recovery are doing well.

We are not sorry for any of the sacrifices we made, if we had to do it all over again we would still make the same decision. Animals are a social issue and responsability. We are all responsible for the situations that arise in our communities. Even if we didn’t cause them, we are responsible on fixing them. And we thank all the animal lovers that help and protect dogs and other life forms."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Maria and Ferenc will not receive any money but 3000 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Romania.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Pleas for donations and in-store collections are not enough anymore for Maria and Ferenc to get by; they need this campaign to be able to keep on feeding their dogs.

"Last year, and in the years before, our strategy of raising donations in supermarket parking lots was working, meaning that in one day we could raise enough for 2- 3 days worth of food. Now, we spend hours there and nobody even stops.

We can’t manage to find food through other solutions right now because everybody is in a bad situation. This pandemic created a domino effect that is still ongoing. All the organization from the area we have contact with have had trouble raising money since the pandemic started, and volunteers are almost non-existant, a lot of people are socially more withdrawn and avoid uncessary interactions.

Our only hope right now comes from a new campaign that city hall will start soon, to offer 200 free sterilization surgeries for private individuals, meaning less abadoned puppies and dogs for us to find. We will be involved in helping people, and it is an important step, but that won't fix anything as far as the food issue is concerned."
