Animal Webaction visited the site 15 May 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Serbia, Snezana is running out of kibble to feed the 34 dogs at her shelter. They will starve, unless someone intervenes!

%%%

"I currently have 34 dogs at the shelter. Whenever I manage to find a home for a dog, there is a new one in distress that I have to take in. The situation is alarming... The donations we receive are not enough, while the expenses for kibble and treatment keep growing. I feel overwhelmed.

Today, I have kibble for about seven days left. If I run out of kibble completely, I will have to reduce the number of dogs in my care, which means that a lot of the dogs from my shelter would be in the street again. Many of the dogs I care for are sick or disabled... Without my help, they would starve or be put down at the dog pound.

All that would be devastating for me. I’ve committed myself to helping these dogs and my whole life revolves around them. Most of the dogs I care for have been at my shelter for years and I love them dearly... Not having food for them isn’t an option I can even think about."

2. Snezana also feeds street dogs, who rely on her. If she runs out of kibble, they too may starve or end up at the local pound...

###

"If I don't find more kibble soon, I won’t be able to feed the dogs that are left on the street. I visit them every day, they rely on me for food. These are dogs that I don't have room for at the moment, but that I hope to take in when I have the resources.

I always fear for them. I am afraid they might be taken to the dog pound, where the conditions are dreadful and they don’t get enough food... and where sick or injured dogs are put down. I don’t know if I am more sad or angry. I can’t let bad things happen to the dogs.

I urgently need this campaign to succeed because I want to make sure that the dogs don't starve and that I can take care of new dogs in distress. People call me almost every day to give me a dog or tell me about an abandoned dog. I am worried about all the dogs I might not be able to help. What will happen to them?"

3. Una was left paralyzed after a car accident, and now also suffers from giardiasis. Skinny and weak, she won't survive without kibble.

###

"Una is about a year old and has been at the shelter since September. I took her in after she was hit by a car at only three months old. Her spine was broken in the accident, she can't use her back legs and relies on a wheelchair to move around.

At the moment, Una has giardiasis, a parasitic infection of the intestines, and she is very skinny. She has constant diarrhoea and has to wear diapers. Also, she is hungry all the time. She is being treated for the condition, and it is essential that she has kibble to eat, otherwise she won't recover."

4. Donations and adoptions have dropped since the pandemic, while the number of sick dogs keeps increasing. Left with debts, Snezana has no money to buy kibble.

###

"The shelter is funded by donations from people who see the stories about the dogs on our Facebook page. I practically beg for donations online... However, since the pandemic, we receive much less help. People don’t pay as much attention, everybody has their own problems.

A big issue now is the increasing number of dogs, especially dogs that need treatment. A lot of them are sick, and we also receive many injured dogs that need surgery. We therefore have debts to the vet...

At the same time, we have fewer and fewer adoptions since the pandemic started. We are at maximum capacity, and I worry about what the next month will bring..."

5. Snezana is not asking for money, only kibble to prevent her dogs from starving.

###

"I started the association three years ago and named it after the first dog I took in, Srećko. He had been run over by a car and was lying on the road for three days with his legs broken, with nobody helping him. He had several surgeries and survived parvovirus... Today he is a big and happy dog.

Ever since then, I’ve been rescuing dogs from the streets and I never give up on them, no matter how badly injured they are. My job is to pick up dogs that were abandoned or injured, to provide them with treatment and then try to find them a home.

All of this is extremely difficult because I do most of the work on my own. I have help from my volunteers, but people recognize me and call me when a dog is in distress and I have to organize and fund everything. It is necessary that more people become involved so that more dogs can be saved."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Snezana will not receive any money but 1600 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. A sterilization project recently fell through, and calls for help don't raise enough money... This campaign is Snezana's last resort.

"We had an agreement with a Serbian association that was helping us with the costs for sterilizations. But, unfortunately, they stopped that project last month due to financial difficulties. Now, we are suddenly faced with much higher bills than before.

I have a Facebook page which I use for appeals and for finding a home for the dogs. I try to raise funds for kibble, for treatment, for anything that the dogs need... I rely on people’s willingness to help the dogs. Unfortunately, the donations we receive are not enough... We need some help."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.
