Animal Webaction visited the site 01 June 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Serbia, Ivana and Ana have run out of kibble to feed the 80 street dogs. They will starve if nobody intervenes!

%%%

"We take care of over 80 street dogs in Zajecar. The situation is really bad... People just dump their dogs on the street and abandon them. These dogs are unaware of the danger of traffic and often get injured by cars or trains, or they get sick. We take care of them as much as we can, but we are really struggling with the debts...

Although we do our best to care for the dogs, we have no kibble left at all today. A lack of kibble leads to poor nutrition and health problems. Also, street dogs who are hungry tend to form packs and become aggressive towards people.

The lack of food is very stressful. It is a bad feeling when you cannot feed the dogs enough. You know that there's someone who depends on you for basic needs, and you cannot provide that..."

2. Ivana and Ana also take care of 30 especially vulnerable dogs in a makeshift shelter. They too, have no kibble left!

###

"We keep about 30 dogs in a makeshift shelter in an old hippodrome. These are dogs that are sick or have been abused... Many of them are injured and need treatment. They would simply not be able to survive on their own in the streets. They depend on us, but we don't have any kibble left for them either...

We try to find homes for them as quickly as possible, but whenever we manage to get one adopted, there is a new vulnerable dog to take its place. It is important that we can keep helping these dogs and take new ones in, but we need the resources to do that."

3. Dumped in the street by his owner, Timi was rescued by Ivana and Ana. Sick and weak, he will not survive without kibble.

###

"Timi was abandoned in the street. His owner probably dumped him there because of his bad front leg. He suffers from rickets, which makes it difficult for him to walk. He is extremely skinny and sick and will need a lot of treatment.

He has started vomiting and has bloody diarrhea and is lethargic. We have taken him to the shelter now to care for him there, and we will take him to the vet. He is fighting for his life, and without kibble he will have no chance to survive."

4. High veterinary bills, unstable funding... Ivana and Ana are drowning in debts and can no longer buy kibble!

###

"We fund our association mainly through donations. We receive donations from good people for particular cases that we post on social media. Unfortunately, it is never enough to fund the needs of all animals.

At the end of last year, we were drowning in debts. We had the constant thought of "Where is the money? How do we get money?" ...it was chaos. Today, we are still struggling with debts, it is very stressful. We have very high veterinary bills, and the biggest problem we have is that our funding sources are not stable.

We have many sick dogs in our care, who need expensive treatment and special care, for example dogs with epilepsy or that have been injured. We don't see how any of this will change in the upcoming months, and in the meantime we have no kibble... It would really mean a lot to us if this campaign was successful."

5. Ivana and Ana are not asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"It all started ten years ago when dogs were killed massively on the streets of Zajecar. We were a group of young people who wanted to do something to help these dogs, so we got together and formed the association Beta. Today, we are well known to animal lovers across Serbia.

We have good animal protection laws, but they are not respected. Therefore, we are the only hope for those animals. Without us, they would probably have been euthanized ten years ago.

We have sterilized about 300 females so far, and we have found a home for many abandoned dogs. The most amazing thing for us is when we get a photo from a dog’s new home. We are changing the lives of those dogs, and that means a lot to us. Especially when it is a dog that was in a terrible condition initially."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Ivana and Ana will not receive any money, but 2300 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Despite local help and partnerships, the incoming donations are not enough. This campaign is vital for Ivana and Ana's dogs!

"We are constantly working on new projects and looking for new sources of help. We are very active on social media and are working on a website, and we have recently opened a Patreon account where people can make monthly donations. We do our best to be noticed and get the word out.

We also maintain good relations with other organizations. We have a partnership with a German association that helps us with sterilizations, and sometimes vet bills. We also have local support through bakeries, restaurants, and some institutions, and the local government gives us a modest amount annually.

Despite all this help and our constant effort to find new sources of funding, the debts are still accumulating, and our association has no stable income. We do our best to keep the dogs fed, but we urgently need more help... "
