1. His mouth hurts so much that he can't chew…

Shadow has a severe case of calicivirus. His gums are red and all swollen, he has foul breath, he drools and he has several mouth ulcers. Some of his teeth have even fallen out!

Because of all this, he can no longer chew to eat and is gradually losing his strength.

2. With canned food, he could regain strength

Easy-to-eat canned food would help Shadow get his energy back. He would be able to eat without chewing, which would be much less painful.
