1. In Serbia, Vesna is running out of kibble for the 350 dogs in her shelter. They will starve to death if nobody helps!
"I have about 350 dogs in my shelter. There used to be a balance between those who left and those who came, and some donations, however right now too few people are considering adoption or are able to help.
With so many dogs, I don't have the funds to finance kibble for the weeks to come, I have got a few days worth of it only. That is my primary concern on a daily basis, and I feel very guilty about it because I am responsible for the dogs, they depend on me to feed them.
I will fight for them as much as I can, because no dog should suffer from hunger. Facing a food shortage makes me very sad and it ruins my motivation, it sounds like a defeat to me because I am failing at my calling and I am failing the dogs."
2. Without kibble, Vesna will have to give up taking in the many vulnerable dogs who need her.
"Most of our dogs come from urgent rescues, they are sick dogs, dogs recovering from physical and mental injuries, old and disabled dogs, puppies. Every day we see dogs that have experienced aggression or careleness from violent, consciousless people.
We try to rescue as many dogs in distress as possible, and to provide them with a safe place. However, the lack of food is putting much pressure on us. If we don't provide kibble to the dogs, we are not helping them when we rescue them, we are actually harming them!
Left with no food, dogs become anxious and aggressive, their immunity declines, and the sick and elderly become even more vulnerable – many cannot survive deprivation. This is why we so desperately need assistance with food, to keep saving these unwanted pets and to keep them healthy."
3. A violent accident has left Zlata with a bruised body, she will not find the strength to recover if not properly fed.
"We came accross Zlata unexpectedly. We spotted her from our car, lying unconscious on the asphalt, hit by another vehicle. We actually thought she was already dead.
It was night, but I still called our usual vet, who went to the clinic to prepare our arrival. The damage to Zlata's body was considerable: her spleen had to be removed, her liver had ruptured, her pelvis was broken, and she had to undergo two hip surgeries.
Amazingly, she went through it all and her condition is stable. It is now time to let her wounds heal, both internally and externally. She is not out of the woods yet, her health is still endangered. She must not be deprived of food, her body would never be able to stand it."
4. The expenses for 350 dogs are astronomical and with only a few donations and her savings, Vesna can no longer buy kibble.
"We are constantly fighting to keep our doors open: we have too many expenses and the pandemic has affected us as badly as everyone else. In terms of medical care, I am in a lot of debts at the vet because we have dogs with cancer or severe infections and therapy is very expensive. And in terms of food, we need over 100 kg of kibble daily!
We don't get any money from the city or the state and we have no food sponsors. We rely entirely on private donations, which are too irregular to be relied on fully and which usually cover a few days of expenses only.
I don't remember when I bought myself a piece of clothing or went to the cinema. I don’t think about these things, I put all of my savings into the shelter because my priority is that my dogs eat. This is why I am asking your help: dogs are living beings, they have a right to dignity and I can no longer feed them."
5. Vesna is not asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.
"There are people who cannot really understand why I would live with 350 dogs and call me a fanatic... To be honest, I don't care. What matters to me is knowing that my role in this life is to save and care for dogs. That is what fulfills me as a person.
My hope is to set an example and that someone in the future will be able to say that they have learnt from me. I see my granddaughter doing everything I do with a lot of love and dedication, and it really makes me happy. One day she will be the one fighting against dog abuse.
It is very important that people stand up, that they become aware of the fact that stray dogs are crying out for love and a normal life. As human beings, we are able to change that, by raising awareness and coming together to truly make a difference."
6. If this campaign succeeds, Vesna will not receive any money, but 2300 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

7. Vesna moves heaven and earth without success, only this campaign will allow the dogs to eat their fill.
"Fortunately, there are loving people that sacrifice a little bit of what they have to help us. I am cooperating with a wonderful veterinarian, we have had some animal lovers visiting the shelter and bringing some food and goods, and a few people contributing when I go to the Pet Center and try to collect food every week.
This help remains insufficient, though, so I am trying to spread the story of the shelter everywhere, but so far I have received only negative answers to my pleas. I connect it all with the current crisis, there simply is no funds.
I will keep fighting, there is nothing that can stop me from saving a dog in trouble. But right now, I would trade a lot for kibble, and I really hope my voice is heard by humane people who can contribute as much as they can."
