Animal Webaction visited the site 21 May 2023 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Kawthar is running out of kibble to feed the 95 street cats in her care. They will starve if no one intervenes!

"I take care of about 95 stray cats in several neighborhoods of Temara. Unfortunately, the stray population is growing: I find a lot of pregnant females, kittens or sick cats abandoned on my feeding sites lately. The problem is that people don't spay or neuter their cats, either because they can't afford it or because it's against their principles. However, they don't mind abandoning the fruit of their negligence in the streets... The same goes for sick cats, as soon as they can no longer afford the veterinary costs.

As a simple volunteer, the costs of feeding, caring for and neutering all these cats are considerable! Unfortunately, individual donations are becoming increasingly rare, and last month I received only one. At the moment, the situation is very critical: the street cats are eating the cheapest kibble on the market, and I have had to reduce the portions for the last 20 days... I feel completely helpless. Without this delivery, consequences will quickly be felt: the cats' health will worsen, they will need more care, while my hands are already tied by the lack of donations... We need your help as soon as possible to avoid a disaster!"

2. Threatened by diseases, street cats are particularly vulnerable, but Kawthar won't be able to do anything for them if she doesn't find kibble.

###

"The living conditions of the cats on the feeding sites have deteriorated lately, for a very simple reason: I can no longer distribute the necessary quantities of kibble, and the little that I have left is of the lowest quality... These kibble cause infections and urinary problems to the cats, one of them even had to be hospitalized very recently!

To make matters worse, viruses are spreading very fast among the colonies because of the abandonment of sick cats; especially coryza, which is raging. I am really worried about the cats and their health. I am afraid they will starve to death, or succumb to disease because of the lack of nutrition... Treatments are also proving ineffective without a proper diet! It's a vicious circle in the strictest sense of the word, and without your help, I'm in a bind to deal with it..."

3. Abandoned in a cardboard box, Wize suffers from mange and a stubborn case of coryza... He won't recover without kibble!

###

"Wize is a young cat who was abandoned in a box, in the cemetery, without mercy... Unfortunately, he suffers from coryza and mange, and he is also very thin. He can't find food easily in this place, and I can't bring him as much as he needs either! Now under treatment, Wize is too weak, he can't get over his infection. He absolutely needs to eat more to be able to support his treatment, gain weight, and heal! Without a new supply of kibble, his condition could worsen very quickly, his eyes could become superinfected, which could lead to total blindness... This would be catastrophic! Life on the streets is already not easy so if he goes blind, he will be doomed..."

4. Donations have dried up since the crisis, while expenses continue to rise. Kawthar no longer has enough resources to feed street cats!

###

""I try to sell accessories to pay some bills, but I earn less than 1€ per accessory sold, it is not enough... I can barely finance a box of medicine with my total sales! The Belgian association Stray Care International helps me occasionally to buy kibble and to do sterilizations, but I am not the only one who depends on their help, and their capacity to help also depends on the donations received, which are decreasing overall... Donors are themselves impacted by the global crisis, they don't donate as much as before.

It is becoming more and more difficult to finance my actions and to find food for the street cats. At the moment, I have almost no more bags of kibble, bills to pay and veterinary debts that are piling up... I am constantly forced to juggle priorities, I try to minimize expenses by postponing operations that are not too urgent, I ration the kibble... But all these actions are like putting a band-aid on a wooden leg! I'm doing my best and I've knocked on every door, but I feel like the situation is getting worse... Only this delivery will allow me to breathe a little and continue to care for the cats as they deserve!"

5. Kawthar isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the street cats from starving.

###

"As a child, I could already see my parents taking care of the street cats by giving them food and water and protecting them from the rain. The love for cats and animals grew in me little by little! Helping animals is a vocation now, and I get a lot of pleasure out of it. That being said, the situations in which I find cats breaking my heart... And seeing a cat, or any other animal being abused makes me angry.

I also have to deal with the resistance of some people on my feeding rounds. I have a neighbor who doesn't accept that I feed the cats in the neighborhood under the pretext that their number will increase and that they will dirty the streets... I tried to talk to him and to convince him of the merits of my actions, but it was wasted. This kind of situation is not easy to deal with but it does not affect my determination because I assume that I am also there to raise awareness about these issues.

If, thanks to my help, people could start to realize the importance of sterilization to stop the proliferation of cats, and of vaccination to stop diseases, then I would consider it a great victory! In the meantime, I continue my actions on the ground, because I tell myself that only by persevering will things change one day..."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Kawthar will not receive money but 920 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics centre in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail...

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

8. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibble, many cats are left to starve on the street!
