Animal Webaction visited the site 15 June 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In Romania, Maria and Ferenc have no more food left for their 227 dogs, they are devastated!

Maria and Ferenc constantly sway between sadness, discouragement, and the rage to find a way out for their animals

We were there on June 15th, with Maria, Ferenc and their 227 dogs, there is no more kibble left.

The shelter is flooded with new arrivals: since our visit 6 days ago, 7 new dogs have already been rescued!

Built with the help of the city hall, the shelter cannot stop rescuing new dogs, although it does not receive any grant to buy food.

Their SOS don't work, Maria and Ferenc don't know how to draw the attention of international foundations.

Dedicated, they already deprive themselves of everything for the animals, but that is not enough.

We want to help them, by sending 4200 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed.

1. The shelter is flooded with new arrivals, the situation is disastrous: without food, Maria and Ferenc are overwhelmed

$$$
Rescued on June 8th after being hit by a car, this little dog died before it could even get a name. His internal bleeding was too severe

Falling into a mechanical trap, Atti not only had both front legs broken, but also remained so for a long time without anyone noticing. Very emaciated when Maria and Ferenc rescued him, he was still recovering at the veterinary clinic during our visit, and one of his legs had to be amputated

###
Only a few days old, these three puppies had just been picked up when we came. Extremely fragile, they require constant vigilance, and can only be bottle-fed for the time being. The shelter also hosts about thirty other puppies, aged from a few days to 7 months....

###
Herceg has only been at the shelter since mid-May, after being found wandering and full of parasites in the rain... Already old, Herceg has lost most of her teeth, wet food is what would suit her best, but it is a luxury that Maria and Ferenc cannot guarantee her...

Since our visit on June 15th, 7 new dogs have already been rescued, in only 6 days.... Abandoned in the middle of nowhere, Rose and her three puppies were reported to Maria and are now at the shelter

Abandoned at the train station, firmly tied by a rope, Margaret has just been rescued too....

Only a few months old, Oliver was also abandoned a few days ago. Alone and confused, he was hit by a car before being rescued by the shelter

Maria and Ferenc's shelter is located on a land provided by the town hall, and as such cannot refuse to receive new dogs.

But the last few months have been chaotic: last March, the shelter still had 180 dogs only, it now has 227! A massive number of arrivals, which Maria and Ferenc are unable to channel.

Very isolated, they are alone to take care of everything at the shelter, finding dog food is a daily challenge that they can no longer achieve!

2. We were at the shelter on June 15th, the few remaining kibbles have since then been consumed. The future of the shelter and its 227 dogs only hangs by a thread

###
Every day, 100 kg of kibbles are needed to ensure that each of the 227 dogs in the shelter eats enough.... A quantity impossible to find for Maria and Ferenc

###
During our visit on June 15th, there was the equivalent of a day's worth of dry food left at the shelter, and no canned food. "We received a donation of 18 bags of kibble, but now there are only 5 left," Maria told us on June 20th, in panic

"We love animals and respect the life of every living being on earth, but we are alone and the situation is already totally beyond us. We have dedicated our lives to these animals, and we will do so until our last breath, but without significant help we will not succeed," Maria told us, aware that the situation will not be sustainable for long.

3. Maria and Ferenc are already giving everything they have for their shelter, but that is not enough

###
Maria and Ferenc gave up everything to set up the shelter, and provide more help to the abandoned animals. All the people we talked to confirmed that animals always come first for them, at the expense of their own lives and health...

###
During our visit, our agent Raoul photographed the room next to the shelter, in which they now live, in order to be as close as possible to the dogs and also to reduce costs to a minimum

###
Ferenc spends his days and nights at the shelter, motivated by a deep love of all animals. Cleaning, feeding, building work and socialization, he is everywhere for the dogs

###
Maria takes care of the dogs in the same way as Ferenc, and handles all the necessary trips outside of the shelter on her own : 40 km must be covered for a simple veterinary visit

Since the shelter was built in 2016, Maria and Ferenc have been fully dedicated to it,  while trying to make ends meet as best they can.

They already invest most of the little money they earn to support the animals, but even so it is not enough... A personal sacrifice that was confirmed to us by all the people we spoke with during our investigation, and that we clearly perceived during our visit.

Despite all their efforts and goodwill, Maria and Ferenc are no longer able to get by, and are very affected by this situation : "Some days are particularly difficult, we often go to bed sad and frustrated by our own limitations, our inability to give these animals what they need and deserve" they tell us.

4. Their calls for help are not working, they do not know how to get the attention of international foundations

After having solicited all the shops within a 50km radius, Maria and Ferenc obtained the authorization to carry out collections on the parking lot of a small local supermarket, which is now their main source of donations

These collections are held several times a month, and are combined with appeals for donations on social networks to maximize their effectiveness

Unfortunately, the collections are time consuming for Maria and Ferenc, who are the only ones who take care of the animals at the shelter, and are far from bringing back the 100kg needed every day...

To date, Maria and Ferenc have only a limited network: the donations they receive come mainly from a few individuals, including many friends/relatives, or from collections made in the parking lot of a local supermarket. But their shelter now accommodates too many animals, it is no longer enough...

Speaking only Romanian and Hungarian, and being constantly solicited on the field, it is very difficult for them to get the attention of  foreign foundations or associations. Only one Hungarian association supports them, but is unable to bring any financial help, having few resources of its own. "We both have a very tough fate. We have to care for and keep the dogs, the cats and the fellows in trouble, which connects us at some level" one of their members explained.

We have to help them!

5. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before June 27th.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

6. The municipality has agreed to help build the pens, but it cannot help for food

###
Installed on a piece of land provided by the town hall, the shelter was built from scratch by Maria and Ferenc, with the resources at hand

###
Although resourcefulness worked at first, it is now insufficient to guarantee the reception and safety of the hundreds of dogs that live in the shelter

###
The town hall has recently decided to allocate a one-off grant to allow the couple to build additional pens, and to buy some cages: a help however interested, so that Maria and Ferenc can continue to accomodate new street dogs coming from the city

Maria and Ferenc received the support of the city hall during their installation, the land of the shelter being municipal property. Very recently, they have also been selected to receive assistance dedicated to the construction of new pens, and the purchase of new cages.

But this help cannot be used to buy food, and the municipality does not provide any subsidies to the shelter. "We have no subsidies. The money raised through the project is dedicated to the purchase of materials for new pens and cages. But in a week's time, these pens will be occupied by dogs that are on the street today, and that we will have to take in" Maria explains.

An endless circle: the help obtained implies to gather more and more dogs, the needs do not stop increasing, Maria and Ferenc have no solution to meet them!

7. Securing the future of their shelter, and the future of these dogs is Maria and Ferenc's priority

###
Because they have not succeeded in establishing a parntership with international foundations, Maria and Ferenc mainly have their dogs adopted locally in Romania. But the demands on the spot remain low....

###
Even exhausted, Ferenc still devotes time to the socialization of the dogs he cares for: a sine quanone condition for them to be adopted one day.

###
Abandoned by his former owners, who tied him up with a rope to make sure he wouldn't come back, Norbi was aggressive following the traumas he suffered. Ferenc devotes time to him every day in order to gradually gain his trust

###
Recently arrived at the shelter, Marci was abandoned following the death of his former owner. If we ignore his past exactly, Marci seems deeply traumatized, and is aggressive with most humans for the moment. Ferenc is the only one for now who managed to gain his trust

###
"We could never ask anyone to devote their lives to animals as we have chosen to do. But we humbly ask those who read us to devote a minute to our cause, because that minute can make a much bigger difference for more than 200 living beings than you might think."

8. They need kibble as a matter of urgency

###
Panny suffered from distemper when she was rescued. Thanks to the treatment provided by Maria and Ferenc, Panny is now cured, but she has neurological after effects that prevent her from moving around as she should

###
Eight-year-old Bătrânu' was severely malnourished when he joined the shelter. So far, Maria and Ferenc have managed to prevent him from relapsing again, but will not be able to protect him without kibble

###
When Nigra arrived, she suffered from a severe skin disease, which Maria and Ferenc had to treat for a long time before it healed. Without kibbles, essential to Nigra's immune balance, she is likely to declare the disease again

###
Villy was rescued after being violently beaten by his former owner: he was left heavily wounded, and his jaw got smashed under the blows....

###
Abandoned when he was only 2 or 3 days old, Panda would not have survived more than a few days if he had not been rescued at the shelter....

###
Found in poor condition on the national road near the shelter, Aggy is permanently blind of one eye

###
Abandoned in a parking lot, Pusi suffers from a tumour on her back, for which she receives treatment. When the resources allow it, Pusi will have to undergo surgery to remove the tumor, Maria and Ferenc hope to keep her strong enough until then

###
In very poor condition, and suffering from an advanced skin disease upon arrival, Leo managed to recover, at least physically. But his condition will quickly deteriorate again without food

###
Sideea was found in the middle of a corn field: tied by a rope to a tractor for days, she had simply been abandoned and left to die there... Her health is still fragile, Sideea has not had time to fully recover

###
Hit by a train while she was rambling, Lucy had to be amputated from one of her front legs that couldn't be fixed
