Set up in emergency to save the dogs, the shelter still lacks everything: having to deal with both cold and hunger, the dogs will not be able to survive this winter.
Note from Animal Webaction: This collection's target was set by the shelter despite our recommandations, we believe it is way too high and could lead to the collection failing. With a shelter of 450 dogs, Daniela has chosen to stick to this target to be able to feed her dogs this winter.

1. In the midst of a food shortage for her 450 dogs, Daniela is desperate, and fears that they will not survive the winter
"The quantity of food I give them depends on the amount of donations" Daniela sadly summed up when we came. With meagre resources, and insufficient donations, she can sometimes only buy bread to feed the dogs. "We are desperate, you are our only salvation," she told us.
"I'm crying about helplessness! I cry for fear of tomorrow! We have always asked for help, no one hears us in return, there is not much asked! We can't anymore! We are at the end of our powers! "she said a few days ago...
During our visit on November 16, Daniela had 150 kg of kibbles left at the shelter, enough to feed the 450 dogs for only one day....
Two days later, the dogs were only able to eat bread, a situation that has occurred several times in recent weeks
For several weeks now, the shelter has been facing a shortage of food that Daniela has not been able to contain.... With very meagre resources, she cannot feed the 450 dogs alone, but the donations she receives fluctuate constantly and do not cover the dogs' needs.
"The quantity of food I give them depends on the amount of donations" she explained to us when we came. This fall, several days went by without her being able to get any kibble, which means she can only distribute bread!
"We are desperate, you are our only salvation" she told us about the collection.
2. The cold and rain are already there: set up in emergency, the shelter is not yet sufficiently equipped to protect the dogs, they need kibbles to face the winter!
Because her former shelter was too close to other houses, Daniela had to deal with several complaints. Subjected to a fine of several thousand euros and threatened to have her dogs impounded, she had to move a large part of the dogs in emergency last September
Daniela has already moved 250 dogs to the new shelter, but must absolutely advance the construction to bring the others too: the land lacks adequate pens and facilities
"In here the kennels were made on rush, almost improvised" Daniela explained to us as she showed us around the new shelter. "Now they stay in the mud, and if they don't have food they won't survive."
On site on November 16, our agent Marina (right) confirmed that the conditions this winter look very complicated for the dogs: "Considering the winter season, which is about to come in Romania, and the mountainous area where the shelter is emplaced, the dogs will face a very hard period of time"
Following repeated complaints from the neighbourhood, Daniela faced fines of several thousand euros, and was forced to move her shelter urgently last September.
If a plot of land has been found thanks to her foreign supporters, it is isolated in a mountainous area, without water or electricity, or even a road connection... Daniela and her husband had to start from scratch, and were unable to complete the layout of the new shelter, which only hosts 250 of the 450 dogs for now.
"It isn't like we expected. Because of the bills, we were forced to set up the place very quickly. In here the kennels were made on rush, almost improvised" she explained. "Now they stay in the mud, and if they don't have food they won't survive."
3. Daniela and her few supporters have been calling for help for weeks.... in vain, we are their last hope
The situation has been gradually deteriorating since October
Daniela oscillates between despair, anger and failure to understand, but does not know how to make her distress understood
Thanks to loyal supporters, Daniela has been able to get a few bags of kibble here and there for weeks... but her supporters are running out of resources and the situation is getting worse!
On the group dedicated to the shelter, Daniela's supporters are desperately trying to bring together new people to help out, without success for now...
Far from being inactive, Daniela tries to inform as many people as possible about her situation, and to obtain additional help to overcome this phase, but does not succeed in obtaining any decisive results...
The dogs do not eat their fill, the cold has already started to settle in, malnutrition will quickly have devastating effects if we do not intervene!
4. Winter is fast approaching, we want to keep them from starving
At the shelter for less than a week when we visited, Eye was living on the street, and was hit in the head by a car. Totally blind following this accident, she is still under treatment, and will no longer be able to survive alone on the street
Abused and abandoned, Balan was suffering serious injuries when he was taken care of by Daniela, and would not have survived without her intervention
Negruta was found in the woods with the litter she had just given birth to, and for which she had probably been abandoned
Boby was found just a few days before our visit, abandoned in the cold and rain with his 2 brothers and sisters. They are only three weeks old, and are very vulnerable... Daniela keeps them inside, in a cardboard box to keep them warm
Abandoned at the same time as Boby, Lulu is the weakest of the three puppies, and needs a lot of vigilance
At the shelter for 6 months, Primul was taken in after being hit by a car, and left on the lower side. Primul had to be amputated from his right front leg as his injuries were so severe
Thrown out on the street and hit by a car, Piciorus remains disabled for life as a result of his injuries
Dylan was found in a ditch after being hit by a car and unfortunately lost a leg in the accident. He was only 3 months old at the time, and spent most of his life at the shelter
Abandoned in a garbage can at birth with her 7 brothers and sisters, Ciobanica is the only one who survived
Bella was found trapped in a bag, with her legs tied with a rope.... alone, she wouldn't have survived
Fortuna was on the street and paralyzed with her litter of 4 puppies when she was rescued only a year ago
Tutu was only a few months old when Daniela took him to the shelter. Too vulnerable, he had been assaulted by other dogs who had seriously injured his neck
5. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive anything
A failed collection on Animal Webaction
We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before December 1st.
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
6. Daniela and her husband are alone, all their savings have already been invested in the shelter, they only have debts left
Daniela and her husband had invested all their savings to build the former shelter, and offer the best to abandoned dogs. Today they have to start from scratch, but they no longer have any savings, and very little resources...
For 10 years, Daniela and her husband worked abroad, and set money aside. When they found Gogu, the first dog rescued in an accident, they thought they were in a strong enough position to manage their own shelter.
But the costs involved in managing 400 dogs exceeded their expectations, and all their savings were guzzled. Both stopped working to take care of the dogs, their only resources now come from the sale of vegetables they grow themselves. A meagre livelihood, which does not allow them to manage everything.
"From our own pocket we can not buy anything for them because all the money we had collected over 10 years working abroad I have already consumed! Now we, from what we sell (we have a garden and a greenhouse with vegetables) can barely pay the bills" Daniela explained when we first met her.
7. The move causes many difficulties, Daniela is exhausted, and there is still a long way to go
With 450 dogs in 2 shelters, the daily management is largely complex, requiring more time but also money from Daniela and her husband. "The move was very hard on us, now we have two places that we have to take care of. There is just me, my husband and since the beginning of this November, there is a man that we pay him to help us."
To prevent fights from breaking out, Daniela and her husband also take a night shift at the new shelter, where the risks are stronger : "There is no place to sleep on the new location, so we sleep in the car to not let the dogs without surveillance over the night." she explained
Without running water, the shelter must also be supplied with water at regular times, to meet the dogs'needs: 1000 litres are needed every day
Despite repeated requests, the town hall refused to carry out the necessary work to build a road to connect the new shelter. Again, Daniela and her husband had to manage on their own to set up a dirt road....
If moving was the only way to save the dogs from the shelter, he brought with him his share of constraints and difficulties, many of which will be exacerbated this winter with the weather conditions.
"The move was very hard on us, now we have two places that we have to take care of. There is just me, my husband and since the beginning of this November, there is a man that we pay him to help us." regrets Daniela
8. The two small associations that support Daniela are at their limits
Daniela's shelter is supported by two foreign associations, which help her as much as they can. But both are small, they have already struggled to prevent the situation from escalating in recent months, and cannot keep up.
"We, as a foundation, try our best to support her with food from time to time, but to raise enough each month for the food she needs is a really big challenge" explained Mario, President of the Dogs DO Matter Foundation who contacted us in the first place.
9. Daniela fights body and soul to offer the best to abandoned dogs
Touched by Gogul's distress and suffering when she found him dying, Daniela has since that day chosen to make animal protection her fight, come hell or high water. A cause she shares with her husband, who is struggling as she is to overcome the bad time they are currently going through.
"For us, they are like our children. If I had the resources, I would bring them better conditions. We live in a house that is about to collapse and we have given up everything for them. Unfortunately, we can't do more than that."
Daniela remains hopeful that things will improve, and that the mayor will finally accept a collaboration with the shelter, which responds to a real need on the spot. But she knows that if she can no longer feed the dogs in the meantime, she will be forced to place them in the pound, where they will be euthanized after 14 days as the law allows if no one adopts them.
