Animal Webaction visited the site 04 April 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
Animal Webaction cannot be held responsible for dog deaths due to the absence of kibble.
"My biggest fear is that we're running out of food and the dogs will get hungry and sick... Most of the dogs at the shelter are already sick, skinny, injured and weak...
Without proper nutrition, their health will worsen, which means more medicine to buy, more visits to the vet... It's a nightmare for me, but especially for the dogs who didn't ask for this to happen... We do our best, but it's not enough!"
"Everything's been harder for over a month now. Older people have to respect a curfew, so we can no longer carry out our duties in the same way as before. There is a complete curfew on weekends, so we had to get permission for 3 younger people who could look after our dogs, and who can do the daily work at the shelter.
It has become extremely difficult to get food for the dogs, because our usual suppliers no longer deliver because of the coronavirus! But we have to overcome this situation and hopefully it will end soon..."
"When we rescued Sammy from the street on March 1, 2020, we were afraid he wouldn't survive... We had to take him urgently to the vet and we did everything we could to make sure he lived! Today, he is recovering slowly, but without an adapted diet, I'm afraid he will get sick again, and that he doesn't have the strength to fight..."
"I love my dogs so much that I'd like to be able to help any dog in need. I want all abandoned dogs to have a warm home and food. Unfortunately, we cannot provide enough food for all the abandoned dogs ourselves, but we would like to help all of them. They are helpless and wander the streets hungry. We give them a home and as much food as we have. But nowadays, we have almost nothing left to offer..."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Serbia, still active despite the pandemic, which allows it to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"People who like dogs don't have money, and other people don't care about dogs. I really appreciate that some people help us, but it's not enough for all the expenses we have: food, rent, veterinarian bills.
The municipality doesn't help us enough, they don't provide enough funds. More and more dogs are abandoned, unspayed and wandering the streets looking for something to eat. But without the help of the government, it's a daily struggle for me to save them all...
I think that people are reserved and unaccustomed to donations in Serbia: they are not sure that the money or the dog food they offer really goes where it is intended. Those who love dogs can't help and some don't care because they say they are just animals".

Due to the current health crisis, Serbia has been placed in lockdown for over a month now. As movements have been drastically reduced and controlled, it was impossible for us to visit the shelter to prepare this action.
However, Animal Webaction visited Pongo's shelter only a few months ago. We are in close contact with Zuzana (she helped us prepare this campaign), and and grant her all our trust.
